glocals deal: Half-Off Train Pass

Hey all,

Here's a new glocals offer for train tickets, ideall for folks who want to ride the trains but don't want to commit to long term passes:

glocals members can not get a Half-Off pass for all Swiss trains for 3 months, plus a 100%-Free pass for 1 day on any Swiss trains, for CHF 91. Normally, half-off passes are sold only for minimum 12 months, for CHF 150.

So if you want to try the Swiss trains and you don't want to commit to 12 months, this is ideal.

You need to get the deal by end September.

To get it, go with this coupon to any train office.

Enjoy!

Actually this deal is very good.  The one day pass is worth  approx CHF 130 if you  have no demi tarrif card and 65 francs if you have.  So you get a half fare card for free or for 30 francs depending how you calculate.  In three months you only need to use the bus in Geneva at the reduced fare 10 times in order to recoup the cost (day tickets 7 instead of 10 francs) Train tickets are a bonus.  question is this a one off deal or will it always be available ?  Because it does work out better than the yearly or even three yearly half fare card if the day pass is thrown in every three months.  unfortunately I have a GA but when that runs out in November i might consider this

Paul:

1. The deal is only on until end Sep, then it's gone.

2. As far as I know, the half-off pass doesn't catch for buses, only for trains.

Nir

PS . put some line breaks into your post man, you're becoming hard to read!

OK

A normal half fare pass (ie the one that costs 150 CHF does give you a discount on Geneva buses.

This has been the case for the last three or four years now (previously this was nto the case in Geneva(. Think it mentions it on the ticket machines and you just press the button marked reduction.

However as this is a special deal it would be an idea that someone checks this out with them especially now tha the fines for not having a ticket are so high now.

Paul,

The glocals 3-months cars gives EXACTLY the same benefits as the 12-months one (only for shorter time). So if the 12-months one also gives discounts on GVA buses, then so does the 3-months one.

The SBB site says this about the 12-months pass, suggesting you're right:

In most cities and urban areas the Half-Fare travelcard entitles you to reduced fares on short-distance public transport services like trams and buses.

Checked with our CFF contact, and you're right: the half-off pass also gives discounts on buses / trams.

I wasn't aware of this before: what a nice bonus! Thanks for pointing it out.

Nir It makes the whole half fare card a really good deal - 3 month special or the regular one and I am pretty sure this is why SBB have agreed to make the offer.  Once you use it you will see how much cheaper transport is.

Any one with a half fare card who wants to use it in another city needs to check before they go there.  Most large cities accept it but Lugano does not appear to but it is small and fares are much lower
