healthcare insurance in Switzerland. which would you advice?

I applogize upfront if this topic already exists, and if so please forward me to the right link:)

So the question i strightforward: which health insurance would you advice to take? Im a young professional, as a starter so costs remain a important factor:)

My company is having agreement with CSS/Intras Insurance company. Anybody has any word about it?

which insurance would you advice from experience and whats the average costs for health insurance in Switzerland on monthly basis?

Many thanks!

The basic insurance is the same for all companies, at least in structure.

So I use http://en.comparis.ch/krankenkassen/default.aspx to check the prices and take one of the cheaper ones.

If you are healthy and don't think you'll need lots of visits, take the highest deductable rate and a HMO model (or similiar, where you have a smaller selection of doctors and/or have to phone the insurer, before you go to the doctor.

I have KPT which is not so cheap but they have amazing customer care I would not change them for the world.

Assura is supposedly the cheapest but their customer care is really bad.If you dont need to go the doctor that often it is worth it just the fact that you save so much.

CSS, I have them for my RC insurance but they are also a bit slow with client response and I never seem to get anyone who speaks english. I have inboxed you the contacts of the guy who helps me with insurance issues. He explains really well.

With Assura, you don't interact with them until to reach your franchise (deductible); you just pay your bills out of pocket.  Also there are very few scenarios where anything less than a 2500Sfr franchise would be worthwhile (I did the math).  So if you are rarely sick, don't see a doctor very often, and can afford to pay the occasional medical bill directly, Assura might be a good option for you.

I agree with Richard. With a high deductible, I really never have contact with my insurance company, except paying the bill.

Hi guys,

thanks a lot for your help!

wondering if you could though clarify few things for me.

Im coming from netherlands, and there you are normally paying a certain amount to the insurance every month AND your first 300 euro bill (in case you make it)you pay it out of pocket.

So, if i understand it correctly, in Switzerland there is also a certain amount that you pay monthly to your insurance depending on the "level" of care you have chosen, right? And in addition, there is also a certain amount that you have to pay out of pocket, untill you reach a certain level of cost.

So, my queston is, how much do you actually have to pay out of your pocket? I mean what is the lowest i can have or is it a fixed amount set by insurance company?

Hope i make myself clear,

Thanks again!

In Switzerland, you have the choice to pay the insurance monthly or once per year (usually with a discount of 2 or 3 percent).

We also have a deductible, but for the general insurance, this amount is not fixed. So you can choose, which of the offered deductibles you want to choose. Agreeing with Richard, in most cases the maximal deductible of CHF 2'500.00 is best.

The level of care is not different. At least not for most of us. Sure, you can pay "private insurance" which for example gives you your own room in a hospital, but prices have exploded here that very few people actually can afford this. Inbetween, there is "half-private insurance" which is a mix of both.

So for most young people, they just use the general insurance and choose their deductible on the basis of their medical history (if you have to go to the doctor a lot, you choose a low one, if you hardly ever go, choose a high one).

You can also take the basic insurance with the max deductable and then add other extras depending on how your health is generally. That number I gave you helped me do this so now I have a semi private insurance at an amazingly cheap price and my daughter has fully private also at an amazing rate. The little differences pile up and its nice to know. But I agree with all the rest take the 2500 deductable the difference between that and what you pay for a 300 deductable will be more than the 2500 by far.

Big thank you for these issue--please compare  Groupe mutuel,CSS,Concordia.

I am in G.Mutuel and its amazing good but i pay alot(504) a month.but i think its the best  & safe for children and it costs (120).They see doctors mostly, small injuries at school, fever,it saves alot.at the hospitals you dont need to pass through the payment sector like having some other insurance where by you pay some amount to see a doctor first.prescribed drugs you dont need to pay in the phermercie, insurance will sent the bill minus 90%-like Excipial for dry skin is 26.50 chf it costs me less 5chf

How about

CSS ,will join them 2014,heard if you sign contruct with them you cant break it before 5yrs,and also they increase yearly.so i need good info. thinking of Concordia its much cheap as well its 388 no increase, decree yes!,you can change if you notify in time every year.

Thx

Libby the insurance you cant break until after 5 years is the extras. Any basic insurance you can change in October/ november period. All the insurances are basically the same you do not have to pay for the doctor but it all depends on your franchise.

minimum franchise is 300 sfr. which means you pay higher monthy costs. 2500 is the max. amount of frachise and the lowest monthly amount. and don't forget that you still pay 10% of medical costs yourself, regardless of the franchise, apart from hospital costs, which are 100% covered.

Important: if you change to the additional ( and more expensive ) "complimentaire" you may find that previous health conditions are not covered, although in the basic insurance they will be.

Epicure, so lets say i dont go that often to see the doctor, unless something unexpected so in general i would say im in a good health. so what im still struggling to understand is what does 2500 "franchise" exactly means? that all my medical bills up to 2500 are paid by me? and in addition i also have to pay a certain amount every month to the insurance? if so, how high?
