Is it just me. I see lots of debates on here, but in many cases some of the posters have no picture on their profile, and it is not possible for someone other than their " friends" to look at their information.I always get the feeling I am being phoned by someone in telesales..... am I just paranoid?

Epicure - who's this guy in front of you in your profile picture?
Robert C, Sep 15, 2011 @ 08:08
One should learn to respond to the argument rather than the photo or profile.
Every one on this site is legally responsible for what they write and that legal responsibility is not connected to your photo or profile but to your lawful identity.

Not enough..
I have a face/beak and name, too.. but tell me: Why would I want to enable any HR department or random person to succesfully search me? This is not pre-Google/Facebook times of old. Face recognition search is being rolled out fast all over, so merely making up a name may not work in a year's time.
And yes, some search companies do create accounts on sites and index activity. It's "the private web".
As for trolls, we know they steal pictures and use those, so a picture won't help in keeping them at bay. Some legal action will.
As for introductions: The computer says 'noo' ;)

Hi Reka, how about profiles. Should those be available to more than friends? If not, what good's a picture? Just curious :)

You're all assuming that the photo in our profile is real. For all you know I could use my picture to avoid being hassled by horny guys, while in reality I look like this:

Actually.....they're not "people" at all, Mr Robert C.....does that "C" stand for "Capon" by any chance (I wish..... LMAO.....)
"In the UK, Ireland and Australia adult male chickens over the age of 12 months are primarily known as cocks, whereas in America and Canada they are more commonly called roosters. Males under a year old are cockerels.Castrated roosters are called capons (surgical and chemical castration are now illegal in some parts of the world - shame.....). Females over a year old are known as hens, and younger females are pullets. In Australia and New Zealand (also sometimes in Britain), there is a generic term chook to describe all ages and both sexes.Babies are called chicks, and the meat is called chicken.
"Chicken" originally referred to chicks, not the species itself. The species as a whole was then called domestic fowl, or just fowl.
In the Deep South of the United States chickens are also referred to by the slang term yardbird."
Lord knows where KFC comes into all of this.....

Apologies for getting off the main thread of talking about Scarlett Johanssen's bazzookazzzzz and discussing chickens.....(and apologies again for the spelling of her name, but I don't really care!) or was that not the point of the initial thread....

More etymology:
According to the Oxford English Dictionary, puss was used as a "call-name" for cats in both German and English, but pussy was used in English more as a synonym for "cat"...

People have a right to privacy and anonymity - it doesn't prevent one from agreeing or disagreeing with what is posted. I don't have any electronic photos of moi-meme as I take photos of my sons when they visit. I only found one photo with me in it with two sons and a friend and cropped it so it would meet the size restrictions of the site.
As well some people might wish to remain anonymous out of fear of retribution. Some months back when (not so) vague threats of violence were made on the 'Divorce' forum, I took down my photo herre and at linkedin as a (paranoid?) precaution.

What do they moderate? Bad reasoning; illogical arguements: total lack of sense f humour?

Talking of sense of humour; if any of you non-Brits ever wondered what we Brits find funny in a very normal way, and also what is fair game to make a joke about, then please listen to the following:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/podcasts/series/fricomedy
This is on radio 4, which is a bastion of all that the BBC stands for, so is very mainstream.

Bruce
That's primarily because some of us are not clued up enough to know how to post a photo of ourselves, not perhaps because we do not wish others to see what we look like!

I'M SORRY, WAS I STANDING IN FRONT OF YOU WHEN THEY TOOK THIS PHOTO?
Sheila,
(Bruce and Sheila, eh...has a nice ring to it but I don't think it will ever catch on)
It is very refreshing to find someone who isn't all hot and bothered over all things technical :-)
But I bet you have a beautiful garden.
I love this quote:
"Live as if you are going to die tomorrow, Garden as if you are going to live forever"

When we had to move to Oz, our friends said "you cannot POSSIBLY go and live there with a name like yours" - so we decided that OH should change HIS name to Bruce....
LOL!
Seriously though, very perceptive of you because we do have a lovely [well we think so] garden bursting at the moment with raspberries, strawberries, tomatoes, butternut etc.
Welcome to come to this side of the lake and see it some time.....

Come on guys, stay on topic. The main topic was Onis's question if she can post a nude pic on glocals. I said "yes" and waited for her reply, but then you took the thread off topic with your talk of sheilas in Oz and gardening and Uk humour. Focus guys, focus!
