hi sheila,
well, i found a round-about way to remove friends requests sent by mistake.
1: block the person- they will then be removed from the list of requested friends.
2: un-block the person of the list of blocked members.-they are no longer on the list of friends requested, but messages can now be sent and received to those members :-)
no need to be an IT specialist. just a bit of logical thinking!
