iPhone 4 unlocking - possible but.....

The other day someone called me to ask me about unlocking the iPhone 4. She wanted to be sure it was possible before going out to get one. Obviously, she has more than one SIM-card and wanted to use it in multiple countries when she traveled.

The answer is "Yes" and I told her so.

But...............

I called her back five minutes later because i remembered that the iPhone 4 doesn't use the current standard SIM card, but the new, smaller micro-SIM. So, just because you unlock it, doesn't mean you'll be able to put it in your SIM card from AT&T or MTS or whatever.

Swisscom have the adaptors from small to normal size sims if you need that option. Means you should be able to move the sim from phone to phone.

Hey,

You can also shrink your SIM card yourself : http://www.ihackintosh.com/2010/04/convert-mini-sim-in-to-micro-sim-for-ipad-3g-yourself/

Not so sure if it's a good idea tho...

@richard that's awesome. I assumed that there would be adapters, but that's the "wrong way 'round". If I have a mini-SIM and I want to use it in my iPhone 4, it's not gonna work unless I do what yannick said.

@yannick those of us who dabble in these things, yes, we can find these kind of solutions. But, someone who calls me about "can I unlock the iPhone 4" clearly doesn't know about such things. This thread was intended for such people

@JC let's see. you can't get the spelling of iPhone right, you haven't figured out how to put the accent on passé and yet you are still recommending an Android phone. You go, girl. If you want to start an "iPhone vs. wanna-bes" thread, go ahead. But, in the meantime, please stay on topic.

So you are saying that my opinion about iPhone and it's competitors depends on whether I am able to spell it the way you spell it (with lower i, capital P) or if I can place the right accent on the word passe.  Pleeeaaasseee.

Android is fast growing and getting wide acceptance and for you to disparage it is just Apple fanboi chatter..

It depends on which one you use for when you're in the Western World or not. Do you really need an iphone 4 in the middle of the savannah for example?

Both Android and iPhone are good platforms, especially now that the Iphone 4 is out. It's the most competent iPhone of the moment.

I have the google phone and an iPhone 4 and both platforms are good and the difference between platforms is no longer that clear. Both do the same type of things although Android still exceeds the iphone when it comes to multitasking for hiking trail mapping.

Neither have batteries that would survive six hours in the mountains though. I know through this summer's activities.

Sorr for going off topic.

Hi,

If she called later, you can tell the following ways to unlock her iPhone4 :

1. By using unlocking software like cydia

2. Imei unlocking method

3. To unlock iphone from service provider

4.  By using Remote unlocking service which is available at    Prounlocking.com
