internet provider and speed, need an advice

Hello,

I just recently moved to a new flat, and have zero exerience with internet/cable thing. As I was looking at citycable, I'm thinking to take 8mbit/sec, but now my question is whether this is actually enough? I'm a regular surfer, fb/mails checking, sometimes some video streaming. Would 8mbit/sec would be enough or should I go for 25?

appreciate your advice!

Hi Olga,

I'm sure 8000 would be fine for what you're doing. Are you considering Swisscom, Cablecom, or other? In any case, the companies make it *very* easy to switch plans at any time. Just call them up and tell them, "I want to pay more money to get faster speed!" They usually love to oblige.

Olga, in another forum you say you dont want to pay the Billag invoice and you will cancel or request cancellation of the Swiss reception taxes. But here you want to get service for Internet streaming, and then streaming of news, Online TV, or other is considered to be part of the taxes you must pay.

Again, all personal reception that could be received by a TV/Radio/Computer/Laptop/Clock radio/Car Radio, Mobile phone media, etc. is the purpose of the taxation.

Well be carefull if you ask for an

Cessation
Exonération

of the taxation

if you then get caught accessing any reception, then you could have a procedure penale, and could be CHF 5000- penalty.

Dave, im not saying i want to cancel billag. I dont have access to tv and i don't own Tv device neither, so i just dont want to pay the tax for TV. I'm fine with radio though.

now, this post is regarding the internet speed, with streaming i actually meant music listening on for example youtube or spotify, so streaming is not a good word in this case.

so my quesiton remains open. will 8mbit/sec be enough for youtube/spotify. thanks
