need advice on buying a second hand car

Hello everybody!

May I have your thoughts please on buying a second hand car from a private seller. The car is almost 10years old, with all the services done. Recently past MFK, but the next big service is in 5000km.

Is that a good deal for a Hyundai Getz, price:5500chf????

Thanks in advanced for any input, and gentlemen please do not laugh if this sounds silly to you. I am not afraid to admit, l know nothing about cars!

Many thanks,

Anna.

Take the car to any garage for a control. it may cost you in between 100-200chf. if you want to make it more sure,Take it for a TCS Test before you realize you bought yourself a lemon. You didn't mention the total KM on the meter but still i think price is bit high especially if you are buying it from a private seller and most probably you wont get any Car Guarantee with it.

You can have an idea of the price form here!

Thanks a lot for the words of wisdom.

The car has 61000km and I have already agreed on buying it. I gave a deposit, but now having second thoughts. I have done a few test drives to more recent cars, but this one was the only that gave me the feeling of a good one, for what I need it.

Now I am so nervous. What a stupid thing to agree before taking the car to a garage.

Thanks anyway.

dont buy car if you live in geneva...the bus and the tram is vere convinient to use daily, not nessesarily to buy car..

1, car insurance quarterly 300 chf or more.. 1200 chf per year

2, gasoline 50chf per week 200 chf per month or more if your using

a car going to work daily.

3,yearly tax road 190 chf. or more obligatory

4, sticker road yearly 40 chf.

so i hope i help you to change your mind, put your money to your bank wisely.wait till some of your friend gave you a use car, then you can start thinking again for all this taxes. good day to you.

I live and work as a cleaning lady for private households in the surroundings of Zurich. Which means a lot of commuting every day between small villages. Not so easy with the every one hour buses here. And so I am in need of a car.

I will see what I can do to fix my mistake.

Thanks!

The Hyundai Getz holds a special place in the lemon hall of shame for being plagued with problems. The worst years: 2003 and 2004. If the one you are being sold is 10 years olds, you are in for a broken crankshaft. A costly repair.

Some Hyundai models are very good, but I would stay away from the Getz. It is not a good deal at any price.

In general, ask the seller for records of all the work done. In this case, see if they have had the crankshaft repaired.

are you kidding? One can't sell a car without lying on a decent profit/price (a car dealer told me once). Go to englihsforum.ch and you will find some horrible stories from german side. If someone sells you a lemon. it is not the fault of the seller, it is the stupidity of the buyer!

Of course one can sell a car without lying. It is a pretty sad statement on yourself if you can not think of decent ways of making a profit other than lying and cheating someone like Anna out of their hard earned money. It is a sad reflection on yourself if you get your lessons in life from car dealers, I must say.

Hello!

Well, after freaking out with my acts I asked to take the car to a garage for a check before paying the big amount of money.

Result: the car is in a good condition. No mejor issues to fear
