piercing-pain or gain ?

Hi All

Finally after declaring i will do it, after the new year, birthday etc etc

I had my nose pierced

what began as a mother and daughter bonding ritual ended up as me

finally piercing after

I found a place in Zurich's old town where the nice lady reassured me

she uses only the cleaniest methods, explained the procedure, looked

trustworthy and said that using a needle is better than shooting

she seemed to know what she was doing, went through the procedure

and a few hours later it no longer hurts that much.

My reasons were ;

1) a deep love for all things Indian

2) I think it looks cool especially when one has a worthy sized nose

3) Midlife crisis??

4) the need to do something crazy

5) all of the above

It is late at night, i am dying to scratch my nose ( not allowed)

it looks like everything went well so far and besides the itching it is ok

there is a  daily cleaning procedure but besides not swimming for three weeks

it seems easy enough AND it is easy to reverse as it will close up again

if i change my mind.

what do you think of piercing?

(I dont think i will do more )

and does it matter what side the nose piercing is?

I chose left but wonder if there is a tradition involved

I had my nose pierced 9 years ago in Frankfurt! They used the gun method, which I have been told since is not the best way!I had no problems, and love it.I do sometimes manage to knock it out at night, and blowing your nose can be tricky.....Tongue out

Mine is on the left too,but have no other piercings, just more ink!!!!!!!

Mine was done by gun, also had no problems.  the good thing about the nose is that if you decide to take it out, it doesnt leave a noticable mark, as some of the others do. Particularly Labret or Eyebrow.  Even though everything was perfect and there were no infections, 11 years later,  I can still put my earring through my eyebrow and occasionally someone notices the tiny hole.   Luckily the only people who notice it are people who have them themselves..Mine was right side, but just a preference as I wanted it on the side my bangs slide to ;)

thank you for your comments

i have to admit that NOT ONE single person noticed i had my nose pierced hence no prob.

and yes, i have been told the method i had done was better, the needle,

I hope not to get a cold

i was told NOT to scratch but i feel like the time i had measles, the itching is killing me but i guess it is a good sign

it  is a good distraction and sort of means i have officially joined the cool

or trying to be cool nerd club

Mankind dislikes any dissymmetry - this has been proven in many experiments. -> pierce whatever you want but not the nose!!!

All our anciens looked at this the same way.

what about Indians=from India ?

as far as i know their culture goes back a long way

and i find the look of Indian women to be quite appealing and delicate

nature is actually very asymetrical

without getting into details you will find that there are slight differences

in left and right body parts

but thanks for your input, the whole idea is to look cool if i wanted the natural look i would wear grass skirts and hoola hoop

Sure, your life, your body, your style. And for me a pierced nose says "Hehe, I don't care about pleasing you." which is fair enough.

For India: I lived there for a while and - also there - symmetry is the thing.2 dark big eyes, in between the big mark able red point and as a little almost invisible note the tiny piercing.

i think a pierced nose means i am into alternative life styles

and a sort of longing for the east but that is my take on the matter

as for the red point, i think i will skip that for now but yes, i see what you mean

the piercing is not that visible by the way as NO ONE noticed it yet

the swiss police are still not stopping me , so i guess i  sadly passed the normalcy test yet again ( at least off line)

I am not at all informed about piercing. Personally. I don't like it. But you sound so happy, and convinced about it being great, that you should and I am sure zou will ENJOY IT...

Now, there's piercings, and then there are piercings.... in strange places.

The question is if you will love it so much, that will think of an additional piercing. And then the chain reaction starts?

I am father of a teenage girl. And I want to be informed about why people pierce. In your case , and I AM NOT JUDGING, is love, beauty, curiosity?

But what about those "lovely" persons that have piercings EVERUWHERE...

I had a huge debate with a great friend that told me I was naive. Told me his version of the story, which seems to be more than just opposite sex attraction... Is this true?

How can I inform my daugther about all aspects of piercing,... and then tatooing which comes , I guess, hand in hand.

Again, I respect, and even admire people that have done different things. In my case, I would not like my daughter to pierce, nor tatoo, nor modify her body. Unless absolutely necessary or desired , I guess.

So I guess the mid life crisis does exist, and makes people Change?

So people do change? Do we become childish again? is this the case? Why search for change, if you love what you have?

Any way, interesting topic, for which I need to read and get informed.

N-JOY.

I am Indian and don't have my nose pierced and none of my female relatives in the UK have their noses pierced either, but most of my female relatives who live in India do.

Star - you said that having your nose pierced may mean you are into an alternative lifestyle, so I don't think that your having pierced your nose has anything to do with Indian tradition Wink

If you like it, then it doesn't really matter what anyone else thinks right??

I would like to make my statement more precise because I made up my mind: clear NO-GO. It looks just rediculous, esp. if you're >16. Pierce your inner labia or whatever but not the nose.

hi

actually it is a bit of both

I do like Indian tradition and i realize it is not that simple

but i like the piercing more and more each day

it is a small stone and very nicely done

i realize not everyone in India has their nose pierced

but i find it very appealing

which is more than i can say for some of the comments made here by a very

rude immature man

anyway, thank you for sharing that with me

Speaking of piercing...and tatoos, here is a link to photos of the celebrated Geneva journalist, Etienne Dumont.  In one of the 17 photos, you can see his face before it was tatooed... He writeson art and history of Geneva among other subjects for the Tribune de Genève.

well

my daughter did not get the piercing after all

Actually i posted a youtube video on it

I generally dont find piercings attactive but i suppose i always found that nose

piercing of some Indian ladies rather nice

it is a small jewel and it reminds me of the east.

Yes, i sort of said it half jokingly but i certainly thought about it

nose piercing is becoming more and more common and for me it does

remind me of the east, which is why i would have it done

i really dont consider other piercings

My daugher had her ears pierced and i know some parents dont allow that

i think it does no harm but i do think that certain piercings seem to indicate

a sort of trouble maker type, and seems to be not that best thing to do

to one who seeks employment in conservative workplaces

a nose piercing is not seen so radical and i have seen it on people with perfectly average and conservative jobs and not motorcycle chicks

I am against tatoos because they seem unhealthy

not that piercing is good for you but i think i dont like the idea of drawing

on my skin permenantly with ink

I think you can watch videos on youtube on the topic

it is a fashionable thing and does not really indicate radical behavior

unless it is one of the more unusual piercings

i think if your daughter wishes to do a piercing then you can talk about why

and what it looks like

nose piercing is easily reversible, and will close up quickly

as for other piercings, i would never consider them

belly button seems to me scary and others too

I like the idea of trying out a new look without too much at risk really

i have not had too many reactions to my piercings which proves that it is considerate quite normal

again when it comes to a teenager, i would think again and again

my daughter does not want a piercing any more and i am glad in a way

she thought about it and after seeing me have it done decided she does

not want it.

In any case if your daughter really wants to have piercing it is also a good

idea to visit such a place and consider health issues

Good luck

Thank you for that very interesting piece

I actually asked a rabbi i know about tattoos and piercings and he said

his own opinion that piercings are not so bad but that tattoos are forbidden

by the religious law because they destroy the body

i guess piercings are also a  tradition that goes back to biblical times

what facinates me is piercings connected with certain cultures

Indians or African and i guess people in Europe and other lands seek

to somehow connect to a certain old tradition

Anyway tatoos are really an interesting subject

i know someone who just got a nice little lizard and yes, i thought , it is nice

but do i want to be like a drawing pad? i dont think so

i   have always bought my kids tattos from chewing gum  packets  and really nice ones in shape of colorful butterflies

anyway , they come off eventually after one or two baths

but human beings have always done these sort of things in various cultures

You started a thread on a OPEN FORUM to help you emotionalise and self justify why you had your nose pierced, and you asked opinion from any people replying as to whether they approve or not....

Why then do you get upset, if someone of the 40'000 people who are registered on this site doesnt approve? Do you want everyone to just give you moral support, or do you want members to offer their opinions?

Equally, when you post on an open forum, where there are 40'000 members from every corner of the world, dont be suprised and shocked if some of them dont approve, find it funny, and feel the need to comicalise the issue..its an open forum after all, and we are a plethora of different cultures and comic interests.

Lambasting me for laughing at what someone wrote and then thanking him for making me laugh is somewhat shortsighted and overly reactional from you.

Learn to lighten up if you post personal stuff on open forum, and stop taking every joke written by me or someone else as personal slant on your character...

Remember the internet is forever.... and keep taking the pills... it will make life here and out in the real world easier to handle.
