It must be a terrible time for the victims, the families and everybody else in the region.  I don't want to place blame or anything.

Nonetheless, within minutes of hearing the news, I used the official business registry for Valais (Registre de Commerce) to identify the names of the two proprietors of the business and all the other businesses they manage in the region.  Their names are available on a public registry but it is not easy to find for people with no Swiss experience.

From there, I was able to locate a news report where the proprietor, who owns at least four businesses in the region, told a journalist he did all the internal fit-out of the premises himself in 2016.

I published his words (not mine) in full, translated to English, in my first blog post in the morning (click here to read that).  I make no allegation that his workmanship is at fault.  I simply published his quote.

It is normal for the authorities to hide a lot of information in the first few hours after a tragedy.  It is important for them to give the information to relatives and next of kin before they give information to the general public.  However, if there have been deficiencies in building inspections or if other buildings are at risk then I would hope they would make urgent inspections on other night clubs, especially those located underground, before they open again anywhere in the canton.  My observations about the response are covered in a second public report.
