stuff for pups!

hi pals

My husband and I are about to welcome a wonderful little boxer pup into our home. Since boxers are working dogs we're looking for lots of games and various things like doggie backpacks to make sure he has a lot of jobs to do.

Just curious - I know all the major pet supply chain stores - but any smaller local store that any of ya'll would recommend?  love supporting local businesses so if that's possible it would be great!

Hello,

For food supplier, I'm using "Moulins agricoles de La Plaine" (something like "Geneva agricultural mills"). They sell - as name tells - all products from the mill, either as floor for cooking etc, but also as food for cattle, poultry, plus pet food in general, and a few other things for the garden.

They deliver for a reasonnable price in the Geneva-Nyon area. They are located in 1283 La Plaine (canton Geneva Satigny-Jura direction): http://www.animaux-geneve.ch

You can visit their shop (warehouse/barn style), but don't think you'll find toys and other accessories for pets.

I believe it's cheaper, as they have a status of "professionnal" and not "shops", e.g. I buy there a 4-kg Royal Canin cat food bag for chf 45.- (Fressnapf, supposed to be the cheapest, is selling the same is chf 52.-), also dog food in can is cheaper there than other pet shops.

It's very local ... as originally made for local farmers !

Hope this will help Smile

P.S. Another shop with great bargain for garden, house, pet food & accessories is Landi. They have three centers the Geneva area, i.e. in Lully-Bernex, Satigny and Meinier. See http://landi.ch/Laden/fra/wo-ist-die-naechste-landi_58287.aspx

Hello,

Feeding your puppy.Puppies grow 20 times faster than adult dogs and so require a special diet to aid their physical development.  A specially formulated growth food is recommended which needs to be fed at evenly spaced intervals to avoid over stretching their small stomachs.
Feed your puppy four meals a day up until the age of four months, and then reduce its feed to three meals a day until it is six months old, when you can change to two meals a day, and keep it on this regime for the rest of its life. Any food intended for the average dog breed statistical average and if feed "on instructions" manufacturer feed your boxer is likely to be "lean." Determine the amount of feed to condition the dog and its activity. Better use of forage quality, well-known companies - manufacturers. The diet of puppy is desired cheese or other dairy products. Well, if you accustom your puppy to the fruit * apples, and of raw vegetables, tomatoes .*
What not to feed the puppy.First of all, you should not give your puppy raw meat.Dry complete foods/There is a wide range of dry complete foods on the market and the quality varies widely. To get the best out of your puppy’s development choose a food specially designed for puppies and buy the best you can afford. The ‘premium’ dry puppy foods tend to have the best quality ingredients. Many are based on chicken and rice or corn, and suit most puppies really well. Although these foods may appear more expensive to buy, you do not need to feed the large amounts you would with a lower grade food, so many of them actually work out to cost the same, if not less! Some puppies are not accustomed to complete dry foods immediately after weaning but will normally grow to like them with time. If your puppy does not seem to like eating dry complete and this is what you wish to feed you can try soaking the food in a little warm water to soften or mix in a little tinned puppy food, gradually reducing the quantity until he is fully weaned and accepts dry complete. As with complete dry foods, tinned foods and semi-moist foods can vary in quality. Again choose a good quality food with an easily digestible recipe i.e. chicken and rice and choose a specialist puppy food which is nutritionally complete (i.e. does not require additional foods to be added to it). As before it is best to avoid changes in your puppy's diet so if you find a product that works for your puppy, stick to it.

Good luck
