swisscare - obligatory health insurance

Hello!

I found a very economic obligatory health insurance (82.50 CHF, 300 CHF Franchise) for non-swiss researcher and students.

Does somebody else have experience with this health insurance? A collegue told me about problems. Switzerland did not recognize this insurance as an obligatory healt insurance. Swisscare is telling me the opposite. Does somebody know where I can find out the truth?

I appreciate a lot your help!!!!

Best,

Irene

My medecin told me, that it's very good insurance, if compare with present one - tradiconsult, which doesn't cover anything :((

So I think it's a good choice

Thanks, Onis! I am just a bit suspicious because it is so cheap compared to other obligatory health insurances ....

Hi,

In the end its the Canton that recognises it, or not, so why not ask them ?

Here is the link of the standard list of assurers. The coordinates of Service de l'Assurance Maladie are also there.

Good luck.

Hi irene

as far as I know, this is a completely legal assurance, but by obvious reasons no one goes shouting out to everyone. also because it`s for a quite restricted group, only  foreign students and researchers. what I can tell is that in my department at the university some people do have Swisscare, and I've never heard of problems (but i really dont know if these people are REALLY using doctors, clinics and so on). I`m also changing to it (i was just waiting for the end of my last contract with Assura). I`d also be happy to hear some feedback...

Cheers, Wanessa

Hello,

Thanks, Phillip! I wrote to the Service de l'assurance-maladie and they confirmed that Swisscare is accepted as the obligatory health insurance in cases like mine (foreign reseacher/student).

Cheers,

Irene

Hello,

just as a warning, I have tried to change my health insurance to this offering in swiss care and I couldn't. If you are living in the kantons of Zürich, Bern, Basel-Land or St.Gallen  (and you have already paid for any other classical health insurance), you are no longer allowed to change it to this insurance.

This webpage from swiss-care explains it better:

http://www.swisscare-intl.com/index.php?id=719

For me it was very disgusting: when I arrived Switzerland, I really didn't know anything about the swiss health system, and one friend advised me a company. Mouths later, when I knew a little bit more about all of this stuff, I see that I cannot change my first (bad) choose.

Cheers,

Pedro J.
