I'm going to get my first haircut in Geneva this afternoon. I know there's no need for tipping wait-staff here, but what about hairstylists? Do I need to tip them? How much?
Thanks!

FYI, a 10% service has been included in all prices for services in Switzerland a few years ago. It had been agreed that this price increase would solve all tipping "cuttelry and bread" or other "service added" issues, which were inconsistant depending on the places.
Tipping is then NOT a practice, as it may be in the US for instance. It's always welcome, it's nice to give one if service has been especially good, or if you're trying to get the waitress digits. But it's neither compulsory nor expected. Or, at least, it shouldn't be. And I hate when waiters who've given you bad service look at you an aggressive way when you don't tipp them, while they charge you 5.- for a coffe.
For all that, and even if I haven't been to the hairdresser for ages, a 20.- chf tip sounds like a generous one to me.

with the price of hairdressers here, i dont pay tip.
if you think its decent price and your are very happy with the service then why not.
i am happy with my hairdresser, but i have never been happy with the price in geneva and hence very rarely pay tip.
and my hairdresser doesnt seem to mind, people seem to think that they need to pay tip to keep them 'happy', which really doesnt make much sense to me, they are supposed to keep us happy with a nice haircut, so we go back!
;)
