When trying to update or restore iPhone, , with iTunes, the update and restore process failed, and there was an an alert error message in iTunes unable to restore,

have you tried the reset? hold down at the same time, the "home" button ( the large one on the bottom of the front face ) and the on/off button ( on the top right ) for about 30 seconds or longer, until you see the famous silver apple logo on the screen. after that, press the "on" button again as normal.

@busstop it's hard to diagnose remotely, but i'm sure I can help you out.
Is this a fully legit iPhone or was it jailbroken or unlocked previously? What model?

Your best bet is to do a restore while the phone is in "recovery mode".
Follow the steps on this page precisely and then try to do a restore before.

If it still doesn't work you may need to schedule a visit with the geniuses down by the Rive side.

I had a similar problem with my I phone. I found that by plugging it into a different usb port on my pc, then it worked.

well its what happened. .. i plugged it into a usb port on the front of the pc, i got the same message as busstop. When i looked on the iphone help desk, it suggested to change the port.. then it worked.
