So what's the rule here? If your wash day falls on a sunday, are you allowed to do it? is it working OUTSIDE of the home that is the issue or can it be inside also? The machines make almost zero noise. any comments appreciated.

It's fine lots of people do their washing un Sundays.
good to hear. I've had two Swiss people tell me it's not allowed but others say it's OK. I don't see the issue. So I've been doing it :).

LOL. I agree. But it's also such a peaceful country :). I certainly don't mind being able to sleep in on a sunday and not being woken up by weedwackers and leaf blowers....

You have a point....but still!
In my building the laundry facilities are locked on Sunday. They are in the basement, two floors away from the nearest residence. The only rationale I can think of is that laundry on Sunday in CH will curve your spine, grow hair on the palms of your hands, and bring peace without honor. I'm really happy that someone is looking out for my welfare.

I installed a small washer in my flat. Problem solved.
Funny funny funny. My washing is rotating as i write, in the communal washer.

there is "good" noise and "bad" noise in switzerland. cutting the lawn, vacuuming the living room, using a washing machine on sunday are some of the bad noises. 7am swiss shooting range bullet noises on a sunday morning are "good" noises and are perfectly acceptable.

You know Randy - if you r insecure - then just ask them - they sometimes make a fuss abt nothing - but asking is like Dale Carnegie said - you will just get to them before they can even complain - and that makes them nicer - maybe they will tell you - after 09:00 hrs or sth - but you can at least wash. we used to live in a 30 family house in Therwil - you were NOT allowed to wash on Sundays (officially) but - after having asked - it was possible - i think - and that is a Swiss saying: if you are not afraid of the answer: ask ;)
No go - is not given fact - it simply requires courage to ask...

Come and live in Sunny France across the border - no-one could care less here - there are no petty rules like in CH.

I wash normally after 23:00 and also Sunday ... it's explicitly forbidden but my neighbours are all retired people over 80 yo and pretty deaf ... so who cares

Why wash them, when you can buy new ones. Everything is so cheap in Switzerland

Ha ha ha - I've been stood over by two men with their arms folded and faces full of unspoken resentment while I took my stuff out of the machine and put it into the dryer ....on a Sunday. They were much younger that me(in their thirties but going on 65)
One of them later came to my door and stood on my doorstep reading the house rules aloud to me until I told him to go away and closed the door.He carried on reading aloud in front of my closed front door!!(he later put a copy in my letter box with the relevant phrases highlighted in yellow)
Another guy-from the building next door(!) - was seen by me,running away from our laundryroom one Sunday,,with a black woollen hat pulled down almost over his eyes and his collar up.He had left an unsigned note on the door for the person who was doing washing telling them that this was against the rules, and we all have to obey the rules......
In my building, the thing is,NOBODY lives above the washroom and the guy who lives next to it doesn't care if anyone uses it at any time......So no one is actually disturbed by any noise.....
The seriously weird people in my building(and next door) worry me a little with their obsessive behaviour - and I could give many other examples associated with the laundry room.Where does this obsessiveness come from?

mmm-you might be onto something there.....
All the people in my building are rocking. Go anytime and wash if it is available, no one care!
And it is only because we all are young and motivated enough to care abt other important things in life which are more real and worth :)
and surely will not get disturbed by "not even disturbing sound" of washing machin!
