webhosting recommendation?

I was wondering if anybody can recommend a good webhosting service in Switzerland for my domain: just a basic but reliable package.

A key thing is there should be no mimumum contract. I've noticed that a lot of Swiss hosters bill on a yearly basis, but I would prefer to pay monthly -- the same way I have done with my English service.

Thanks for any tips.

I have used both of these, but not long enough to give you detailed feedback.

Hi

I currently use  http://1ahosting.ch/ and have found them very good for the last 4 years or so. Also, on the odd occassion I had a problem, my email was answered in hours and problem solved, usually my fault. I went for the home package, but it has changed from 30Gb now to 100 Gb, but I'm not near needing more space as I compress my pics. I wanted something that had unlimited traffic, as I host my own photo site. I highly reccomend them, and their servers are/were physically located in UK as they are an offshoot of shop-24.

I've reccomended them to friends who are also happy with them.

I'm quite comfortable with Hostpoint; they're reliable and prices are fine (though not cheapest).

I used Infomaniak and had no issues. The price is OK, the set up is real simple, and it works. They charge a yearly fee tho. However, if your site is already hosted with a different companiy and you switch to Infomaniak, they'll give you 10 months free with no strings (their way of pulling new business).

Another option is to consider remaining with your UK based host. Moving your site to Swiss based servers is not likely to make it any faster, and there's usually no difference where the site is physically based when it comes to the user experience.

Thanks for all the suggestions! I looked through these hosts, but they all seem to do yearly billing rather than monthly billing. Does anybody have a host with monthly billing?

Hi

When I was looking for a host, I saw plenty who advertise a monthly price, but they all seemed to prefer yearly billing. But as it's not a lot, it's not a problem, and makes things easier on the paperwork. You could try speaking to one of them, but do you really want to be having to pay every month for amounts less than 10 CHF ??

I second Nir's pointer on staying with your current UK hoster if you feel comfortable with their policies. Even if this is under a Swiss TLD, which you might or might not be able to register through them, you can always take your business abroad.

OK I guess I could live with the yearly billing, but I just discovered another thing about Swiss webhosting services... they don't seem to accept online Visa payment, which is normal in other countries.

Maybe this is just because I am trying the cheaper services first... Has anybody else run into this problem?

as a web designer I advise you Infomaniak, is very secure as they dont have cpanel and the support is great in English and French =).

Now if you are breaking into web site design and is for your personal use. I can offer you a free webhosting in my servers, but you will have to use shh and team viewer to connect as I am using mac servers.

for more info p.m.

But what about payment using a Visa card?

Anyone tried Xelon.ch by the way? Under 60 CHF a year.

I've been using hostorama.ch for a few years, mainly because of the price, CHF4/month, for up to 5 domains/14GB.

Hi,

You should find good web hosting for "you", which is good for you and your needs. The hosting depends on the disk space, bandwidth etc. If you have any specific needs means that should be satisfied. There are many hosting provider in the market who provide the cheap hosting. But in my opinion there are so many things are more important than cost. As for example support, security, reliability and up-time. I suggest you to visit the one of the best hosting service provider http://www.9cubehosting.com/  where I had hosted my domain .
