My own answer parallels those posted.
I have met new acquaintances and friends, whom I would have never met without glocals. With some I have spent few minutes, with some hours, with few stayed during my visits to Geneva. Perhaps it is mark of a developing and deepening friendship that conversations never seem to finish, only interrupted and to be continued later. I cherish these developing friendships, and sometimes find myself thinking about them, curious whats happening in their lives.
During my stays in Geneva, if I have free evenings and a desire to indulge the extrovert in me, there is one or more member activities to go to.
I have found answers in forums here about Switzerland. For example, glocals helped me find charities to contribute to, when I decided to no longer maintain a property in Switzerland. Getting such answers mattered to me... someone conversant in english.
I have tried the Market Place here. It worked once, it didn't once. I count that as success as well. In ways, I wish glocals was in Zurich two years ago when I was there and seeking temporary residence and some guidance. Better late than never... expats like me in Zurich, Basel, Bern, etc. now, looking to rent flat over the short term or long term, sublet apartment or home, buy or sell stuff, should find Market Place in glocals useful.
Forum discussions are interesting, welcoming and thought provoking at times. It is nice to see that members ignore the typos and focus on the message, the content. Discussions are civilized, and the moderators do a good job in keeping it healthy, fun and balanced to competing perspectives of different members.
Even though less than 1% of the total members seem to participate actively in the forums and member activities at any given moment of time, my experience is that glocals is a valuable resource to those who can benefit most from it, and when they can benefit most from it. That matters.
I add my voice of support to Marmark... thanks everyone.
