hey charlie! it's funny that you mention france, because i actually live in Thonon les Bains, France my wife and i work at geneve, so i have been to many Carrefour markets and they don't have it.
where exactly is this american store? i have only been here a few months so i don't know my way around here all that good.
As far as cheesecake mix goes, i have my mom's old recipe, i like to make mine's from scratch, i doubt that the mix is anything like the original homemade cheesecake, thanx for the info though.

Coop and Manor has it, but only the whipped kind in the tub, not the block unwhipped that is suitable for a cheesecake. The American market will have the Jell-o no bake cheesecake, that is a quick easy subsitution but definately not authentic, they will however have the Graham Crackers you need for the crust. I have heard that to make a proper cheesecake with the whipped here, you have to increase the amount of philadelphia that is used, but I have yet to try it here.
Good luck, i'd kill for a slice of cheesecake factories peanut butter cup cheesecake..

Now that you have the answer, how about the recipe ?
Cheers.
Hi Joan, I once bought the 'real' Philadelphia cheese at some supermarket... don't remember which one.... but was surprised to find out that the texture was not as 'dense'.
However.... I have tried the St Moretz cheese (found at any French supermarket) and discovered that it has the same-same texture as our good old Phily....
On the subject of cheesecakes.... you can read from other threads that there is a few of us just craving for the real one!!
Bless your mom & her recipe !!
& let us know if you have any leftovers :-)))

hello everybody! here's mom's recipe.
1 and 1/2 cups shortbread cookie crumbs, if you can but the ready crust go ahead, if not it takes about 24 cookies.
2- tablespoons of melted margarine or butter
3- 8 ounce packs of the so hard to find philadelphia cream cheese (softened)
1- 14 ounce can of sweetened condensed milk (very important) not evaporated milk or you'll end up with something you can sip thru a straw
4- eggs
1- 8 ounce container of sour cream
1-tablespoon vanilla extract
preheat the oven to 350 degrees, "this is farenheit" in celsius it would be about 176 degrees.
combine the crumbs and margarine and press firmly on bottom of a springform pan, place this in the oven for 7 to 10 minutes to make the cookies a bit crunchier, then in a large mixer bowl, beat cheese until you get a fluffy texture. beat in sweetened condesnsed milk until smooth. beat in eggs then sour cream and vanilla and pour into the pan where you placed the cookie crumbs, there is an optional ingredient my mom uses and that is add 1 tablespooon of flour to give the mixture a more consistent finish. so that is up to you guys if you want to try it out.
bake for about 50 minutes or until lightly browned around the edge, note that the center will be slightly softer, if you're not sure try sticking a knife and see if it comes out clean. cool it, then refrigerate for about 2 hours.
Enjoy!
Ps. i'm making mine's with Oreos! so be creative and use whatever you like. For the topping also you can use anything to garnish it.

Hey cheescake fans,
I love to know how much Cream Cheese and Cheesecake fans are out there!
I personally love the recipes from Emeril Lagasse, and I find lots of his recipes at Food Network website, for the crust I always use Digestive crackers which in my opinion are the best...
Iana, thanks for the tip.. I haven't googled Cologny yet, but I am hoping that it is not too far away from my home, I did find very recently a place called Cindy's Diner, restaurant and station located in the highway between Bern and Zurich, and you can also find a few "edible packed goods" Betty Crocker icing, Fireballs, Arizona tea...just to name a few.
Have a good weekend everyone.
