Parcels will arrive in Geneva before me...

Hello Switzerland/Geneva professionals,

Hi, I am very nervous about three parcels that I sent yesterday from Japan to Geneva, so it would be really appreciated if you could advise if you know any.

According to the post office in Japan, it seems that my parcels will arrive in the apartment before I do. And there is someone else living in the apartment.

I chose the storing option when I sent the parcels, so they should keep them somewhere up to 15 days. However, I am not sure about how to locate them. Since there is someone else, I highly doubt if the Swiss post will leave a notice….

If you have had a similar experience or know someone who had such an experience, please give me an advice.

It was hell expensive to send them and most of my winter clothes are inside the boxes, so I do not want to lose them!

Thank you very much for your help in advance.. Embarassed

Ayako

Can you ask the person who is living in the appartment to add your name on the letterbox?

Hi Paxxie!

Thanks for your message. I wish I could do that but I don't know who is living there. And I don't think they will give me such a personal information...Will they? This is something that never happens in Japan though :(

Regards,

Ayako

Hi Ayako-san!

Normally in Switzerland, when parcels arrived they give advance notice by phone or will leave a piece of notice where you can go to pick it up.  If you are tax exempt or no additional pay needed, then there is also a possibility that they will leave those parcels with someone in the address you wrote.  Did you write your contact number in Switzerland?

Good luck!

Ask the post office to hold it..

Somehow, I doubt most people are itching to pick up and hold on to strangers' parcels, for obvious reasons.. :)

"However, I am not sure about how to locate them." - You would go to the Post Office website with the consignment (parcel tracking) number and type it into the Track & Trace-form.

If her name is not on the mailbox then the post office will not leave a retrival slip there.

It's best to do as FerneyL recommends above but also to find out the maximum length of time the post office will hold the parcel for you, just to be certain.

Hello Netchie, Fiona, Ferney and Translator!

Thank you very much for your comments and tips. I emailed the post office in Switzerland and they told me that they would hold the parcels until I move into the apartment! I hope this will work smoothly and I'll have no problems..

Your comments surely gave me peace of mind. Thanks a lot again!!

Regards,

Ayako
