And we commemore it this on june 1st.
The ceremony commemorates the arrival of the Swiss at the Port Noir in 1814, an event that precedes the entry of Geneva into the Confederation the following year.
On that day, at 7:00 am, two companies of Fribourg and and a compagny of Solothurn, including a total of 300 men, embarked in Nyon to reach Geneva by way of the Lake. By land, they would have to crossed the French territory.
Geneva welcomed them with enthusiasm, with shouts of "Vive Genève, Vive la République, Vive le nouveau Canton ! "
On May 19, 1815 was signed after the agreement of all the cantons, the definitive treaty of Geneva admission into the Swiss Confederation.
If you want to assist to the Ceremony, it starts at 6 pm.
It's something interesting to watch.
