The verdict was handed down on the previous Thursday morning in the trial of the man who sexually assaulted a woman at the Halles de l'lIe. The Geneva correctional tribunal sentenced the man to 8 years in prison including psychotheraputic treatment for attempted rape and sexual imprisonment. The prosecutor had demanded 9 years.
The tribunal did not agree that there were extenuating circumstances and underscored the gravity of the acts committed to the detriment of the sexual integrity of the other person and [noted] that the assaults had been increasing. The judges reproached him for having acted to satisfy his sexual compulsions.
The facts go back to the month of May 2009 during the opening of the Geneva brasserie. The accused, a 41-year-old Belgian, followed a woman to the toilets of the establishment before assaulting her sexually. Several weeks earlier, he had already assaulted two other women.
