5 year old visiting this October - ideas!

Hi all,

Friends from the UK and their 5 year old are visiting this October (18th for 3 days) and I am struggling for child friendly things to do.

I find October a bit difficult at the best of times (being an inbetween season) but I am really struggling to find ideas for things to do for a little'un.

If the weather is nice I'm thinking maybe a boat trip on the lake, or Chamomix (Aiguille du Midi)... but if it rains....erm..?!

Any ideas would be most welcome :-)

Hi there,

I've heard that Papillorama is a great place.

Hi,

If the weather is nice, of course there are a lot of parks around Geneva that the 5 year old would love, especially Bois de la batie that has a mini zoo.

If the weather is not so nice, I like to take my girls to the Natural History Museum in Geneva. It is free (!) and has lots of interesting things to see. you can easily spend hours there.  I think it currently has an exhibition on birds. If the 5yr old likes creepy crawlies, there is a Vivarium in Meyrin too.

Also, there is a science museum in Lausanne (espace des inventions). It is not very big but worth a few hours. There is also a vivarium in Lausanne too but I have not been.

This website is also useful for more ideas of what's on for families: http://www.croque-loisirs.com/com/

All the best!

Re boat trips:  do check the schedules because there aren’t so many cruises in the autumn and winter.

A visit to Yvoire could still be fun, especially the garden of the Five Senses.

Chillion castle is another  place for children to explore (although five might be a bit young) but Montreux’s worth a visit anyway.

Good luck!
