Hi my name is Kirk. I am here (Zurich) from Australia.
First of all sorry for 'capitals' :) Needed this to stand out :)
So my dilemma is I came here on Holiday and wish to stay and seek work. I am living with family.
I want to know if anyone has come for holiday or other and managed to obtain permission for work/residency???? Thus without having to leave etc. If anyone has any hard facts on this I would deeply appreciate it. Id like to keep speculative information to a minimum as I have had that for quite some time now.
Thanks to all
Kirk

Kirk, it's not good news (gotta be straight). I've had other friends trying to find work and/or residency to no avail. Are you on Aussie passport? If so, even harder since the bilateral agreement came into play. The only chance I see is if you seek work doing something like hospitality in one of the resorts but the timing is not so good (near end of ski season). Hopefully someone out there has better experience but the folks I know have had a very hard time of it; also the job scene is very tight here (in spite of what many think, Switzerland is very much exposed to the global recession).
Best,
Nick

firstly welcome Kirk. secondly sorry to be the bearer of bad news... I am an Australien and was here first for 3 mths as that is all our visit (tourist visa) is allowed. Then came back and tried again to apply for B permit (Ausländerusweis B) which is what you need to get yourself a job, insurance, tax details, permission to stay for 12mths...
Long story short i did not get my papers until i got married which was our plan anyway, but we just needed to do it a little quicker than expected. Then they slugged me with back paid insurance bill to my last stamp in the pasport from the Zoll (1800+chf) and slugged me with a tax bill even though i had not worked, due to not having a visa, they just figured i owe them (for my wife and i) 5000+... we did get out of the tax bill, but no way out of the insurance.
Australia makes it hard for the Swissies and they return the favor. :( (or vise versa)
hope this bit of info is of help
cheers
