Advice? Really well qualified but struggling to get into finance! :(

Hello fellow English speakers!

Look for a little advice here.

I'm 23 years old, from London, and been living in Lausanne / working in Geneva for almost a year now.

I want to break into this world of banking and finance supposedly dominated by English speakers. I am well qualified, I studied at the London School of Economics and received distinction on my thesis, I have plently of good experience and am currently working as an intern for an NGO in Geneva, where I do production of trade and financial analysis / news.

The things is, I have nothing but good expieriences a nd references, but I am just struggling like hell to find any opportunity or way in. Everyone here tells me Geneva is all about 'networking', but I came here with my Swiss girlfriend and don't really know that many people in these circles.

Can anyone advise me? Those of you in the sector, did you come here with an offer of work, or did any of you manage to pick up a good position after coming here??

It is all quite disheartening not being able to find work that is decently paid, I really get the feeling that the Swiss preserve many jobs for their own people :S

Advice is really, really appreciated. feel free to message me!

Best,

Kyle

If you want to be a private banker and have no experience, try getting a "stage" job over the summer at a bank or asset manager.... its paid minimum wage, but is often a door opener and can lead to a perm job..

Unfortunately alot of the UK / foreign banks are letting staff go at the moment...if you speak spanish or russian thats a big help, since thats a growth sector here..

Its tough for alot of people....even those with 20+ yrs experience ;-)

good luck
