Advice on Health Insurance

Hey,

I will be moving to Geneva from the UK in a few weeks, and I was wondering if I can use my current medical insurance that cover me internationally?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Amal

Hi Amal,

Unfortunatly you can't keep your English cover. The Swiss government ask you to take the Swiss basic health insurance as soon as you enter the country.

Hope this help

Thank you for the information.  Question:  I am moving to Geneva and planing to reside in France.  Is Expat/international health insurance a good idea?  Are there requirements not covered by these types of international health plans?

Hi Emilio,

If you live in France, Swiss insurances are not valid. So you must have a private insurance in France. They have special products covering the risks in France and in Switzerland, made for people living in France and working in Geneva (there are many!)

In that case, perhaps your insurance in the UK is valid because you're member of Europe Community. So ask your insurance to know if they cover you evrywhere in Europe, even in Switzerland. If yes, no problem. You can keep this one.

Good luck.

hi emilio,

if i remember correctly, as an american working in switzerland

(with a work permit ) you are not allowed to live in france and work in switzerland. this is allowed, however, for citizens of EC member states.
