Ah ha! I was in your spot a year and a half ago.
Drive into France. If you don't have a car, it's worth it to rent one for the day from Patrick Location to pick out your mattress.
We bought two 160cm (Queen) Simmons beds at 'BUT' near Annemasse. There is another BUT near Thoiry though I don't know their selection. These beds are for our guest rooms so we didn't want to spend a lot (came to be between 300-400 Euros per bed including box spring). They don't deliver into Switzerland but you can do a 'detaxe' to get the French taxes of 19% back and rent the BUT van which is what we did. These beds are very comfortable and meet my american expectations - I was very surprised at the low price.
For our room we got a 160cm Sealy Posturpedic pillow top, amazing comfort. We got this at a store called Meubles et Salons right next to St- Julien en Genevois. It was when we just moved into Geneva so I was also desperate and the lady who owned the place sold me their demo mattress and a box spring. This is a great store. We also bought our couch here. She will calculate the price without French VAT and add the Swiss VAT. They will go through customs and pay the swiss and deliver to you free of charge. I forgot how much I spent perhaps around 1,000 Euros but again, I was desperate and the bed is wonderful.
Good luck to you!
