Anti-Racism Association in Geneva

Hi All,

I am interested to fight the racism especially on internet; do you know any Anti-Racism associations in Geneva?

Btw the Swiss Penal Code says about racism :

“Those who publicly incite hatred or discrimination against a person or group of persons because of their racial, ethnic or religious;

Those who publicly propagate an ideology aiming to disparage or denigrate systematically members of a particular race, ethnicity or religion;

Those who, for the same purpose, have organized or encouraged acts of propaganda or takes part;

Those who have publicly, in speech, writing, image, gesture, by assault or otherwise discriminated against or lowered in a way that undermines human dignity a person or group of persons because of their race, their ethnicity or their religion or who, for the same reason, deny, grossly minimize or seek to justify genocide or other crimes against humanity;

Those who having refused to a person or group of persons because of their racial, ethnic or religious, a service intended for public use,

shall be punished with imprisonment of three years or a fine.”

You can find more information on:

http://www.ekr.admin.ch/themen/00042/00054/index.html?lang=fr

In the future if you have faced to racism behaviour on internet, there are 2 alternatives actions:

- Register a discrimination complaint according to the article 261 bis of the Swiss Penal Code.

- Contact the Swiss Coordination Unit for Cybercrime Control (CYCO) http://www.cybercrime.ch. This service is also responsible for matters of racism on the Internet. It shall, where appropriate, send the case to the criminal prosecution authorities.

And then the authorities will decide how to handle your case…

Many Thanks,

Felipe

hi felipe,

i always like your posts! a friendly note of caution however: once any hint of plan of action that could conceivably be linked to legal action is made public the 'good guys' can find themselves in court by virtue of george bush-esque pre-emptive strike by the other side. so please cover your own back here and do not let yourself get burned. you obviously have a powerful contempt for racism, which is admirable, but one can imagine, hypothetically speaking, some characters who may find your bold and courageous words a threat to their right to be, how shall i put it, 'distasteful'. I would recommend you go outside glocals in pursuit of this goal (i.e. setting up a website to act as a watchdog on internet racism in switzerland). and before you do anything get legal advice to protect yourself from the very people who wish to expose. you are obviously a nice person and in my experience all too often it's the nice people who end up in court, not the nasty ones. not fair but true! don't stop being courageous but also remember you have to look after yourself too.

DavidR, Felipe,

Just curious about your progress: did you join any anti-racism association, or did you start your own association?
