This question comes up quite often, so there are some good suggestions in other threads.
Plenty of good local bands, of course it's a matter of taste, for example: Stevans, Aloan.
If you're around in late June there are 3 days of free outdoor concerts with dozens of local bands playing (Fête de la Musique).

Stephen Poppell & the Wolfpack is terrific.
Original country rock/blues and they put on a terrific show.
They play around Geneva and Ferney and the next show will be this Saturday at Charly O'Neill's

will be at CERN for that. also the Fêtes de Genève has some local bands playing all over town. depends what sort of music people are looking for.
