Any squash beginners?

Anyone other beginners want to play squash?  I played a little about 15 years ago, want to try again and looking for equally rubbish players to thrash me!

Likewise...I would be delighted to play...I have space to give a lift if you have a location in mind... I tried to get friends involved a few years ago. With time constaints and travelling for work most of us could never make it. So here is to trying again.

Squash Racquet: tick

Shoes (non marking): tick

Balls (yellow dot squash): tick

Transport: tick plus x1 space

Venue: ????

Great, between us we could start a mini-league... regarding venue, I haven't found any courts to play on without membership yet... anyone know anywhere?

I was going to join a club somewhere anyway,  http://geneva-squash.com/  looks god and  has a beginners course if anyone else is interested (280chf for three months trial membership).

hey jedi

i play with a friend occasionaly (and by occasionally i mean once every 2-3 months :P ) in a club opposite CERN main building - http://www.squash-meyrin.ch/ you have to call up and reserve a court (technically speaking you can improvise at the risk of not having an emtpy court) and the court charge is 20 an hour for non-members; which seems pretty reasonable. they have 4 squash courts in the basement, parking, locker rooms and showers. there's also a pool at this complex but i'm not aware of the opening hours. technically you can take the same buses to get there as you would CERN (14 tram until last stop then 56 bus, if youre coming from the train station) but it's much easier to drive if you have a car and there's no traffic

id be up to play on saturdays and some evenings like tuesdays and thursdays (maybe fridays)

Ok, how about Thursday evening (Sept 30th), I'll hire a couple of courts at Meyrin for a couple of hours and we can play round-robins, or "winner stays on" if anyone's feeling very energetic!

Who can make it?

Haven’t played in a while but would love to start again!

Unfortunately I am not available this Thursday but maybe could join next time. I have 2 racquets so hope this would be helpful for others.

hi,

they might be able to rent you rackets but the booth is closed in the evenings (you leave money for courts in an envelope and slide it under the metal divider at the booth window when it's closed) you should call and ask - i know that the other club lends you raquets (next to geneva airport - http://maps.google.com/maps/place?cid=10284341946475416210&q=squash&hl=en&cd=1&cad=src:pplink&ei=UYugTKXtEs7esgbotPjNBw

but it's smaller (3 courts) and more of a "members only" type of place; they'll let you try once but then you'll have to get a yearly pass (which isn't unreasonable - something like 250 chf) the advantage of this club is that if you become a member you get a key allowing you to access it 24/7

they also have a buffet / bar and locker rooms / showers

I've booked a court for tomorrow evening @ 20.45 in Meyrin

http://www.squash-meyrin.ch/images/SQM_plan.pdf

But as I only have one racket and as the club office is shut, others will need to beg/borrow/steal/buy their own...

I will also book courts for next Thursday as most people seem to be available then.

Hope to see a couple of your tomorrow.

Not sure if anyone was coming tonight, but I have to work late so won't make it. Frown

The court however is available should others still want to play.
