Any suggestions are most welcome

Hello,

i have this big problem......

My appartments floor is floating (there is smelly water underneath) and i latetly have been having some visiters (rats), so i need to move quick because the owners insurance is going to fix it but i can't be there. I have been looking for an appartment/room/anything in France but noone is renting me because my work contract ends on the 31st of August. And even though my boss is happy with my job and we have already discussed about me staying, i can't prove it to them.

So if anyone knows of a room for rent in france please let me know. Or if anyone knows of a place where i can rent like for 4-6 months again please let me know. There has to be public transportation because i do not have a car.

Thanks in advance for any reply.

Ana: >>  your message did not inform what caused the water damage. Will you explain if you wish?

Depending on real reason your present situation might be treated differently and may be not fully at your own expense...

Insurance documentation copy and your landlord letter must be in your hands as back-up proofs you are exposed now in a stressful environment. Some sort of a reference letter from your boss might also facilitate your immediate search.

The expert said the leak is probably coming from the shower, we are not able to see anything as it is and i am forbidden from using it! According to him i need to leave so that they can take everything off and see exactly where the problem is. I will ask my boss a reference letter, you never know.

Thanks!

If you are asked to leave make sure you receive this "recommendation" in writing as this is to be considered a contract termination . Bear in mind you must think ahead of having full respect of your rights as a regular paying tenant. Let the owner or owner's rep inform you officially of the various plans.

First, are you living In france?

But if your in Switzerlnad, I know there is some protectioni for you, as long as you have a valid rental contract. Im not expert but Check with ASLOCA, this is a renters protection association. Its really good.

My understanding is that any stressful or harmful reasons from renting, that the owner is obliged to provide other accomodatons or a subsidy.

Go ask ASLOCA. http://www.asloca.ch/asloca-gen%C3%A8ve

Dave G i am living in France.

According to the owner my insurance should pay for my accomodation until i find something, and my insurance says exactly the opposite. We both have Allianz, so i think they are just trying not to pay.

I got letters from both, my boss and the owner and i am going to see some appartments this week. Hopefully those letters are going to help. This situation has been very stressful and i just want it to end.

Thanks again to all of you.

As you have insurance no matter if owner's insurance is also with the same company, your rights must be respected and damages have to be fully paid by insurer (minus possible deductible). So do keep all bills and invoices you pay to claim refund with the said insurance Co. You will at same time contact the City Hall of Commune of your present residence to find out  coordinates of Free Judicial assistance Bureau which is openedtwice a month usually and go explain the particulars of your misdaventure. The owner's insurance needs to pay.
