Anyone know any Vegetarian Restaurants in Geneva?

I am looking for Vegetarian Restaurants in Geneva, but can't seem to find any at all.  Preferably with a cool and trendy atmosphere too...

There are 3 entries on Google:

1. Pancake-Making Cafe (Creperie)

2. One Health Food Shop

3. One Vegetarian restaurant - which has reviews for the best Steak Tartare in Geneva???

I would be very grateful for any help and suggestions :)  By the way, by Vegetarian, I mean no meat, fish or chicken.

There is only one restaurant mentioned in the glocals guide with an interesting revue (no lettuce at 1.30 pm) but most restaurants will happily provide a vegetarian meal if you go and talk to them first.  Even cabanes in the mountains will prepare a vegetarian option (usually omlette). i supose every fondu restaurant is vegetarian and all Indian restaurants have vegetarian options.  If you cannot eat in the presence of meat fish and chicken munchers then will be difficult

Hello vegetarians!

I have not yet tried it .... but a good -vegetarian- friend of mine highly recommends KUTCHI, Afghan restaurant.  Located in Bellevue, on the road to Versoix (opposite from Port Gitana rest.)

bon appétit!

The only vegetarian restaurant in Geneva is the Sunset, rue St-Léger 3 (but also serves fish on Friday).

Le figuier has good Lebanese vegetarian options.

Unless you are a great lover of cheese and omelettes maybe avoid anywhere too Swiss / French. Gandhi Cafe, Indian place in Paquis have at least a dozen tasty vegetarian dishes on their menu, as do Little India.

Thank you for understanding the difference between Vegetarian Restaurant and Restaurant with Vegetarian Options... I will check it out!

Most restaurants offer the obligitoire Veggie option.... few dishes are inspiring.

There is a gap in the market for Hip, Cool, Trendy Vegetarian restos.  I guess most vegetarians ae forced to eat Indian, Lebenese, Pasta, cheese fondue or a pile of chips. What a shame fusion cooking has not entered the scene here, it would be inspirational, for sure!

PS:  To the others - Thank you for your feedback.

Don't get me wrong!  Indian, lebenese, pasta, cheese fondue and a pile of chips are all good food... when you are looking to eat that type of food.

I on the otherhand, need to have a venue for a vegetarian visiting-work collegue, used to a variety of choice, in chic enviroments.... and it can not be chez moi!

The Petit Futé (www.petitfute.com) mentions two places:

Le Kid  It's not uniquely vegetarian, but has many possibilities.www.restolekid.com

The only real vegetarian is Sunset: 3 rue Saint-Léger (next to Bastions), telephone 022 320 15 13. Just open from Monday to Friday from 7-17.

Havent been to any of them myself yet.

To my knowledge there is only one restaurant/cafe/health food store that is vegetarian/vegan in Geneva and that is Aux 2 Portes, Lacombe in Rue Schaub. This is confirmed by the Swiss Association for Vegetarianism on its page about vegetarian restaurants in Switzerland

http://www.vegetarisme.ch/restaurants.php

However, it only serves lunchtime meals. Both the Sunset and  Le Kid have many options for vegetarians, I think the Sunset more than Le Kid, but they are not uniquely vegetarian.

During my time in Geneva I've seen three good uniquely vegetarian restaurants close down. I think the main reason was lack of custom. That said, the last one that closed served delicious seasonal, local and creative vegetarian cuisine and it was always pretty full when I went there (quite often) and I know there were personal reasons behind its closure. So there's definitely a gap in the market for vegetarian restaurants that serve this type of food in Geneva. Maybe now there would be enough regular custom to support one. But is any restaurant owner willing to take the risk?

Though it's true you may be able to discuss your dietary preferences by calling in advance, it would simply be lovely to turn up and select your dish from a menu or be served tasty, seasonal and satisfying vegetarian food.

Anyway, I hope you find a suitable restaurant for your vegetarian work colleague - even if you may have to travel beyond Geneva to do so ...

check out www.resto-rang.ch > you have loads of venues listed, including vegetarians restaurants (go on to the scrolling menu "cuisine", at the top).

I am also new to Geneva and Vegetarian. I went to Le Kid while visiting in February - it was a bit strange for a veg-head from Seattle used to a plethora of options, but as far as I know, it was ALL vegetarian.

I have tried a few places around town that are not purely veg, but have veggie options.

For something nice, not to expensive, and providing more than one option, I recommend Soupcon http://www.soupcon.ch/. I had the tofu and although it was something I could have cooked at home, I didn't have to. The atmosphere was nice and the dessert was wonderful! :)  But everyone around me ordered meat, so please take that into consideration.

The Demi Lune Cafe http://www.demilune.ch/
has a veggieburger, a few veggie entres, and a Calvinus Black Porter beer that is to die for. Plus, a relatively cool atmosphere in the old town.

I also recommend italian. The pizza here is yummy and, very Swiss, at least to me.  Great pizza, ok atmosphere: Pasta d'Oro

oh, the Mango Deck www.mangodeck.ch  is great for lunch.

Good luck.

Cafe Remor in Plainpalais introduced a vegetarian burger this summer, and it's the best I've ever had, although I didn't have many because the idea of a "vegetarian burger" seems a little odd to me...

I often go for the vegetarian mixed plate in Parfums de Beyrouth in Paquis, a Libanese imbiss. It's the best of its kind that I know of.

Megan, Calvinus is indeed the best beer around here. Several bars have it, for instance Cafe de Lys in rue de l'ecole de medecine.

Right Jango, I forgot about it because I rarely frequent places that serve it. But I should, it's indeed awesome. So I retract my statement and say that Calvinus and Murailles are the best local beers :-)

Thanks Jango and Thomas. We actually walked to the Murailles brewery one Saturday afternoon, just for the nice walk, but secretly hoping it would be open, but alas, it wasn't. Do you know where the beer is served around Geneva?

Ah, never mind, found it on link above. I will definitely give it/them a try!

Andorinha - sorry for high-jacking your post. ;)

You can find it in Chinese Restaurant, i prefer to go to Chinese Restaurant cause they serve more vegetarian than meet or chicken, and the food is more healthy. You should try first before you bring your boss along with you, if you like it..then you could bring everybody with you ;)

I'm vegetarian as well but i'm more like to cook it at home for myself and my friends too :)

I've heard very good things about an Ethiopean restaurant called The Melting Pot. They serve vegetarian dishes as well. Rue de la navigation 8 | Les Pâquis |  +41227315151
Tue – Sat 18:00 – 23:00, Sun 11:00 – 15:00

http://www.spottedbylocals.com/geneva/the-melting-pot/

Also, check out the Glocals vegan and vegetarian group: we have at least one event each month. Our next event is a free vegan barbecue tomorrow, (Sunday 22nd July). http://www.glocals.com/things-to-do/geneva/48875.htm

Hi, I know this is for Geneva, but there is an excellent vegetarian buffet in Bern train station, if you happen to be there, strongly recommended! It's called Tibits and it's on the ground floor-it's very popular and always packed!

Tibits is very good, too bad it isn't anywhere near Geneva.

By the way, since it has been mentioned here, KUTCHI is not a Vegetarian restaurant.  It's a very good Afghan restaurant, very nice, cozy and quiet, highly recommended -- but it doesn't qualify as vegetarian as 90% of the dishes contain meat.

Good afternoon,

maybe too late, but  I will try anyway.

At Zia Lucia, we do offer home-made vegetarian dishes, coming straight from Puglia, in Southern Italy. Our dishes have no conservatives of any sort.

Check it out at: www.zialucia.ch

Try our bestseller: Parmigiana di Melanzane!

And delivery is 1 chf only in central Geneva.
