Baby Tylenol

Dear Glocal Parents, do any of you know where to find Baby Tylenol (or a good equivalent for teething) in Geneva? I have inquired at the local pharmacies and, besides being recommended regular pain meds for infants, they don't seem to carry it nor does there seem to be anything that tastes as good as Baby Tylenol. Thank you for your help!

Have you considered suppositories?  They're standard here and very effective.

Hi I don't know baby tylenol but for all 3 of mine (one teething at the moment) i have used osa which you can get from any pharmacy. When it has been particulary bad and they can't sleep at night have given them a suppository as Jimbo mentioned above. In Geneva the paracetmol suppositories are called Dalfagen and go by weight.

Tylenol is paracetamol and you can get it here as suppositories for children (Tylenol Enfant suppositoires 100, 200 and 350mg).

There are many other paracetamol brands, so you can choose what form you prefer (sirup, drops, suppositories): for example Dafalgan or Ben-u-ron (sirup and suppositories), Becetamol (drops for small children).

Osa is a lidocaine gel that you apply directly to the gums.

Good luck...

Baby Tylenol is the called Daphalgan(Dafalgan?).  The dosage varies according to the weight of the child.  I don't think they sell liquid for children under 2.

Benuron is what is usually given to babies in Geneva, in suppository form, which is paracetamol, strength according to baby weight, just ask your physician.

our son takes Piriton for hay fever, any idea if there is a swiss equivalent or where we can buy it as no chemists seem to stock it.

about finding medications and their 'commercial name' equivalents in other countries -

I understand that pharmacists or chemists can identify local equivalents if they have access to the medication's composition, i.e. from the box or the leaflet

hope it works for your little one!

Tylenol is acetminophen (paracetemol in Europe).  We used it (Perdolan in Belgium) as suppositories for fever and it was quick and effective.  One of my three sons did get a bit hyper but not too.  Never used it for teething but rather a topical oral solution (oil of clove?) and teething rings.  Good luck and I don't think you should have any trouble finding it if you haven't already.

SwissMedic is the agency that regulates drugs here just like the FDA.  Unfortunately the info is in French: http://www.swissmedic.ch/marktueberwachung/00091/00092/01478/index.html?lang=fr

In Belgium it was OTC and it is both prescription and OTC here.

Sorry for the late reply as I hadn't noticed your posting.

Piriton is a antihistamine variant, you can get antihistamine  here in many forms, including drops for kids.

The pharmacy at Cornavin has English speaking staff, as does the pharmacy in Chavannes... (and many more I am sure).

I use claritin.... it can be broken into half for smaller dosage if needs be.

As to teething meds...thats been covered here, but if your child only likes the syrup kind (paracetamol derivative) I would try and ask anyone coming back from the Uk or UK to get some in a pharmacy there for you... its not offered widely here.

Please read my post again - paracetamol is available in Switzerland as suppositories, sirup, drops. Dafalgan, Ben-u-ron, Tylenol are all different brand names but are all paracetamol. No need to have it bring back from the UK or any other country...

Hay fever medicines have nothing to do with teething problems.

(trust me, I know my business... I'm a paediatrician)
