Banking in France while living in Geneva

I wonder what is the feasibility of depositing my money in a French bank (I am thinking about HSBC France) while I am living in Geneva?  How much hassle is it to cross the French border from Geneva to find an HSBC cash machine?

Anyone had this experience?

The reason I am thinking about this is that I might need to live in Geneva for a few months while my study visa is still being processed during which time I might not be able to open a Swiss bank account.

Any idea would be much appreciated.

Thanks, Kalok

The closest HSCB branch to Geneva is in Annecy, France. Which is about 50km away. 1h by car. 2h by bus. Other option would be to buy a safe, if your first goal is to deposit money in a french bank instead of keeping cash with you while waiting to open a swiss account.

Open a Postfinance account at any post office. They don't require a permit, just a passport. It's not a bank but gives roughly the same functionality. At least it worked for me.
