Best Mobile Network to use in Geneva

I am hoping to receive my Work permit in a few weeks but would need to initially obtain a  local Mobile phone on a Pay as You go prior the arrival of my work permit, after which i will opt for a contract with BlackBerry service.

Can anyone suggest the most cost effective solution to me, in terms of price and coverage(Voice & Data)

Merci

Last time I looked into this, as a heavy data user who rarely makes calls, Orange Me was the best solution.  I'm not sure what they have for Blackberry, though.

I have been with Orange for several years. Now I am changing to Swisscom, Natel Infinity XL. It is true it's expensive but for me worth the price (plus, a discount if you use their TV + landline - WiFi package). Firstly, I do need to call quite often abroad (unlimited). Secondly, they offer unlimited internet data with high download speed. The cheaper versions of Natel are good options as well. I hope they will soon have on offer the most recent BB Q10 model. Finally, the network coverage and customer service are better.

I personally prefer Swisscom although it is probably more expensive.  The reason is better service.  However beware the data costs, especially overseas data roaming.

I have the Swisscom Natel Liberty Primo service which headlines at 29 francs a month.  However my typical monthly bill is nearly 50 francs.

The rates are as follows:

NATEL® liberty primo

CHF 0.70 up to 1 hour For calls to the Swisscom mobile and fixed networks
(BEWARE: even short calls of 1 second are charged at the above minimum rate as if you had called for a full hour.)

CHF 0.90 up to hour For calls to the mobile and fixed networks of other providers

250 MB Data included per month

50 SMS included per month

In practice the 250 MB data package is not enough for even simple low usage.  Surplus data gets expensive at 10 cents per MB.  I rarely surf from the mobile, just rarely checking train times, looking at stock prices (on the iphone app), and reading email, but I still end up going over the 250mb limit.

The KILLER cost is international data roaming. That costs 100 times as much at 10 francs per MB.  Outrageous!  Always turn data roaming off.  Swisscom quote it as: 0.30/30 kB which doesn't sound so bad as 10 francs per MB  (It costs about 10 francs per web page).

According to the HTTP Archive, which gathers stats on the top million sites in the world (as ranked by Alexa), the average web page had surpassed the 1 MB mark by 2012.

If you visit just 10 web pages while abroad, it could cost you 100 francs.  Swisscom do offer some roaming data packages but they're expensive and quite a hassle to buy.  Your best bet is to always turn data roaming off and to try and find a local data solution when you are abroad.

I haven't checked other operator data costs.  I suspect they are similar.  Based on my experience data costs are more important than telephone costs so I advise you to check the data package and costs carefully.
