Bikes in Geneva
Hello,

I'm trying to find out if it's worth buying a bike in Geneva or the UK? (I'm moving to Geneva in Feb!).

Can anyone reccomend where's best for buying a bike in Geneva?
Also, can you take bikes onto public transport (trams)?

Thanks

You can find second hand bikes at a good price at the Croix Rouge (Red Cross) shop in Rue the Carouge (Stop Pont d'arve with the tram 13 ans 12). Or you can look at the market that's in plainpalais on Saturdays. For a new one... no idea.
As for transportation ... you can bring your bike on the trams but not on the bus (I think).

And for me it's a must having a bike in Geneva (maybe not in Winte, but you'll definetly use it in spring/summer - unless you are lazy as me!!)

Hope it helps!
Cheers

Thanks for the info Hoiling.

I was ideally looking for a new one. I'm looking forward to not having a car, it's a lot healthier than being stuck on the M25 for an hour each morning!

you can take them on, but only on weekends and off-peak hours during the week.

as for prices - i think a reasonable new bike here would cost around CHF 800-1000.

geneva is great for biking in summer, that is true.

Was also wondering about bikes.. Was told to check out the new bikes just arcoss the border in france (much cheaper, as with everything..)
Either you have a nice friend who will drive you or you take the bus and then ride your new bike home.

Thanks for all the info.

Yes, I was thinking of getting a Titanium frame, dual suspension, shimano gears bike. I'm going to be in Geneva next week for 5 days (looking for appartments) so I'll have a look around.
I'll definately have a look in France though!

I found a website for Geneva bikes but then realised it was for Geneva, New York!!
:0)

Thanks again.
