Biking in Geneva with young family

I am trying to plan for our stay in Geneva and wondering whether it is worth the hassle and cost to bring over our Chariot, which is a 'remorque' that allows you to pull two children behind a bike and also converts into a double stroller.

Are the bike paths large enough to accomodate the 'remorque'? Have you seen many familiies biking with them?

Another option is to purchase a 'triporteur' that is a bike with three wheels and a box at the front where the children sit. No idea if you can get them in Geneva, whether they are popular there, or expensive?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I would advise bringing the trailer for your kids. You dont say whether you are planning to bike in Geneva proper (the city) or more more family jaunts around the lake but either way Switzerland bike paths are good/big enough for the trailer (well, may be not so good in city - but it can work). Those three wheelers you can buy here (for lots of money) but my general opinion is they are good only for short city riding, unless that is your focus (you can also rent them in Geneva)...cheers

Hi Isabelle, I used a bike trailer to transport our two kids around Geneva for a couple of years. There are great cycle lanes here and in many ways Geneva is probably an ideal city to use one.

Have a look at these guys for an alternative to bringing your trailer...

Like Arthur says those 3 wheelers would cost a fortune here (if you could find one that is).

When are you coming? How long are you staying for?

Hi Jimbo,

thanks for the link for the bike rental. However, I see that it will cost me around 100CHF for a 5 day rental - this is approximately how much it would cost me to ship my trailer from Canada to Geneva ... Although it will be a hassle to do so.

We are arriving August 1 2013 and departing June 30 2014. We will be living in Petit-Saconnex.

I am planning on using the bike mainly to access parks, pools, etc. which require complicated or longer transit rides.

Any other suggestionss?

Hi Isabelle,

I would check at Decathlon a French brand of sports gear. They have a lot of stuff dedicated to biking along with the kids, and I think they have a store close to the border in Annemasse. The trailer is a bit expensive but you might want to call them to ask if they can rent it. See the link below

Where are you from in Canada? Your name sounds like Quebecois, I am French, I live in Ontario and will move to Geneva early Aug.

A bientôt

At that price, the remorque is certainly worth considering.

We are a bilingual family from Ottawa ... contact me if you wish to get together with the kids, ours are 3 and 6.
