Board gaming in Geneva

HI guys,

I really enjoy boardgames and I would like to find a group of people who play boardgames on a regular basis here in Geneva, preferably during the week and preferably in English (even if my shabby french should be up to task to make me understood even in a french club)

If you have any leads, let me know!

Hi federico,

if by during the week you can do Friday evenings its is worth checking out the Joca club in Eaux Vives. Just google for the website to find more details. It meets once every 2 weeks, a sh*tload of boardgames, people are mainly French speakers but typical for the area a lot do speak English.

Apart from that if you like specific game/s post an ad and see what happens.

The only glocals boardgame activity I know is Scrabble in English but meets infrequetnly on Saturday evenings

Ok there are a few of us on the forums who like board gaming and rpgs.

I am a member of a local games club and I do have english-speaking friends here who have a large collection of games as well.

Note we are talking Civilisation, Twilight Imperium, San Juan, Puerto Rico and other such games.

Perhaps if there is enough interest we can form our own games club.

HI Maria, Hi Vedra,

thanks but what I mean are strategy board games, that are fairly more complex like the ones Martin were referring to.

Martin, I am totally up for Twilight Imperium and Puerto Rico, they are my fovourites. Really I would totally love to meet to play - it's really too much I do not play

Diplomacy is fun, but you need time and 7 players, probably best to do by post.

I am trying to organise something for the next Month.

At the moment a bit rushed and also my e.mail was down for a week.

Games I have to offer:
Puerto Rico & San Juan
Mississippi Queen
Car(d) Wars
Family Business

I have a friend who has a large gaming library and he would like to get together a group to play Twilight Imperium, again 6-7 players and 7-8 hours of play.

Perhaps if we meet one evening during the week to get to know each other, maybe a beer and pretzels night, say at the Clubhouse. They have tables we can play at, and beer to drink.

If I get enough feed back I will see about getting something together for the beginning of August, may be a Wednesday evening.

I will happily play any game, of those martin mentioned. Puerto Rico I know very well and I love Twilight imperium.

I am totally up for meeting during the week and next wednesday sounds really good.

To me, best way to play twilight imperium is by dividing it into 2/3 nights - if one can leave the game set up, that'sthe best possibility

if we can pack together 4/5 experienced gamers, preferably that played it before, it would be great. Let's meet soon though, coz I am leaving 31 of august geneva

Would anyone be interested in an official  backgammon group?

The last time I posted this I was contacted by four or five people, saying groups existed and were thriving in Geneva (even though there was nothing posted anywhere about it). In the end it got a bit heated and like Life of Brian in the style of ‘The Peoples’ Judean Backgammon Front of Geneva’ were better than ‘The Geneva Judean Peoples’ Backgammon Front‘ etc, etc.

If the members of these group would maybe like to combine set up an official Glocals one then great. Otherwise I’d be more than happy to do it myself. Would be nice to get some feedback on this.

Cheers,

Richard

I am interested as well, will be travelling most of August so sorry to miss meeting.  I have a good collection of games here as well.   Mainly the new Euro Games, but can play the classics as well.      PM me and I will send you my email and maybe include me on the list.   Thanks.

Thanks Leo,

Backgammon Group request has been submitted to Admin today. One this which could help is if anyone has any ideas for suitable venues alternating between Geneva and Nyon?

I was thinking of somewhere with maybe a backroom or slightly separated part of a bar or café with the possibility to have some snacks. I'll let you know as soon as I have any news from them.

Cheers,

Rich

Rich,

there is a Scrabble group which meets in a cafe in Plainpalais area - the owner seems quite open to letting people play there and even have a Backgammon board...that maybe an option... but I am open in terms of venue etc

To everyone who's expressed an interest in this: just FYI, I wrote to Site Admin this morning to see when this group will be officially set up. I'll let you know as soon as I have an answer.
