Bringing domestic helper to Switzerland

Has anyone had experience with bringing domestic helper to Switzerland? How long does it take to get a work permit?

Aida, if you or your husband has or will be getting a carte de legitimation (your profile mentions "UN") it is extremely easy and different from what is required of others. It you or him will be working a UN agency or similar organization, ask your HR department for help and they will let you know. Again, with a carte de legitimation, it is very easy, as it covers not only family but domestic help. People who do not have one will give you erroneous information.

Aida.

better ask Geneva Welcome Center also known as CAGI they will tell uou aboutt procedure from A to Z. Should not be difficult. However do follow collection and remittance of required documents not to loose time and energy.

Good luck,

It will be straight forward if you have a Carte de Legitimation. I have done it in the past. The HRDepartment in your husband`s office will help you with the whole process and they will submit the documents to the Swiss Mission on your behalf.

Here is the information from the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs:

https://www.eda.admin.ch/eda/en/fdfa/fdfa/organisation-fdfa/state-secretariat/protocol/manual-for-embassies-and-consulates/stay-switzerland/fdfa-legitimation-card.html

Protocol determines the conditions for granting and assigning the different types of legitimation card according to status: persons called to act in an official capacity at a diplomatic mission or consular post, individuals authorised to accompany them including domestic employees (Ref: Article 17, paragraph 1 of the Host State Ordinance of 7 December 2007).

Hi, I am wondering Aida, if indeed you were able to bring your nanny? Are the language requirements very strict. I am going to try to bring in my nanny, but am very worried that due to her not-too-fluent english she may not get a visa?!

Hey Mahwesh, we didn't start the process for her yet, we did inquire about the procedures and it seems there is no strict requirement for fluent English or French. As far as we know if she will be working for your family, then you will be the one to decide what language you require her to speak.

Hope this helps
