British School in Geneva - Ecolint

First of all, hello! My family and I are moving to Geneva later in the year with the UN. I'm sure I'll be taking frequent advantage of the very useful Glocals site to tap the collective wisdom of Geneva based expats.

We are currently trying to obtain a school place for our 12 year old daughter.

The most obvious place would be the British School in Geneva as it is very close to the office and we will probably be moving back to the UK after Geneva (up till now she has been in International Schools in Africa/Asia) so the British system would perhaps be preferable to IB.

However, I can come across no parent feedback for the BSG. Also, it is not independently accredited or inspected which concerns me.

Can anyone offer any insights into the British School?

The other place we are considering is Ecolint. So feedback for there would be much appreciated too. And any suggestions for alternatives likewise.

Why not look at Institut International de Lancy - www.iil.ch

We have a 15 yrd old son there and we think it is great - very high standards and good teachers.

Cheers

Welcome to Geneva!

We have two children at Ecolint . The more artistic one doesn't like it much, but the one more interested in Science likes it a lot.

The school has got a good reputation, but could improve on their communication to us parents.

Thanks for the feedback, guys.

IIL looks like a good option that I hadn't come across up till now. If we were to opt for IIL (assuming there is a place), what would be the obvious places where one might live (which seems to be strongly influenced by the choice of school in Geneva)?

Anyone with any knowledge of the British School? The location is so convenient I'd like to overcome my doubts!

Andrew, we live in Chene-Bourg which is on same side of river but some distance away. Takes about 20 mins in morning traffic to get there. Places like Carouge, Plan les Ouates (?) are much closer tho.

British School in Geneva is part of ASC International. I know they are growing, and that they have had decent feedback.

Another school to look at is College du Léman. Like Ecolint and IIL, they have a bus service (at extra cost, but quite extensive) which makes location more flexible.

Incidentally, I am conducting market research on the private education market in the Geneva region. If those who have children in these schools could participate, I'd really appreciate it. Survey takes about 20 minutes, and we will provide snapshots of the results to participants.

Cheers

Might help if I were to put the link to the survey in (I'll post it as a separate thread in the forum as well): Please click here – To complete the 20 minute survey

In case anyone else is facing the same decision, we ended up opting for IIL, partly because of location (which is quite convenient), but mainly because I was very impressed by the facilities and staff there. It seems a very well run school. My daughter is also excited by the prospect of getting one of the iPads that are distributed to all pupils as a teaching aid there!
