British politics on TV

May 6. Well, May 7 really.

This thread contains some rather useful information about when pubs can (legally) open. It also states that since we live in Switzerland, we should no longer show an interest in foreign goings-on, but despite having attended the Glocals Swiss politics seminar, Swiss politics is still baffling. Therefore I'm going to have to maintain an interest in the politics of the country in which I maintain citizenship and the right to vote.

But general elections aren't really about exercising democracy, are they. They're about staying up waaaay into the night to watch the counting of the votes. The bar-charts, pie-graphs, and swingometers. And the, ahem, drinking.

The problem is that by the early hours - the time it starts to get interesting - all the bars are going to be shut. So, the question: does anybody know a solution to this? Are any of the pseudo-British pubs going to be open late somehow? Or illegally? A hotel maybe? I seem to recall some latenight thing for the US election, but the exit of Brown and the entry of Obama aren't really comparable on a global scale, so I doubt the motivation is there. If there's a location, then I'll put together some kind of event.

Any ideas?

I imagine a lot of people just want to be alone with their thoughts as Robo-Cameron moves into power.  You can stream BBC One (among many others) from Zattoo.com if you're in Switzerland.  You need an account and the player but I've been using it without problems for about a year.

Replicant of who?  Don't you think the liberal democrats have a chance with the young and vibrant Mr Clegg?  But hey, what would I know...and what might I care either as I'm from the Island on the other side of the IRISH Sea...:-)...

I'm just concerned as he seems to only be Nexus 4 or 5 at best.

I think empathy might still be a bit beyond the Cam'ronator
