Buying a Car
Hi all,

I am thinking about buying a new car and given the crash in sterling was considering buying a left hand drive car in the UK and then bringing it over to Switzerland.

Does anyone have any experience of doing this and can you point me in the right direction in terms of what process I would need to follow and what the potential costs would be?

Many thanks

Good idea, as u'll probably end up saving money on the original purchase price. Im personally toying with the idea of buying a few right now on the same idea... however, if you can find a transport company that you can ship it transport it down here. if you buy the car from a dealer in the uk you could mark it for permenant export with the dvla and the tax man, when you leave the uk you will get the 17.5/15% tax back. If you can then get here relatively cheap you will need to pay 7.6% tax on it at the douane into switzerland, + registration, service technique (mot - for which you will need to make sure the car has lhd headlights... )plates, insurance (cheaper than uk).

All that + insurance for a year shouldnt cost u more than 2000chf, depends on how much you wanna spend on the car in the first place. 7500gbp+ its probs worth it.
