Hey all, I saw this thread on Englishforum and it gave me an idea:

Basically, the guy bought a bike(read: motorcycle) in the UK where they are much cheaper. I want to the same thing in France or Italy. I'm looking at picking up a Ducati and paying in Euros to gain on the exchange rate, and also avoid having to pay these ridiculous customs fees at least until I am ready to sell or leave the country.
Apparently, as a foreign national on a short-term permit I can import a vehicle I've owned less than 6 months and defer taxes for up to two years.

Has anyone ever done this before? If so, I'd love to hear how it went.
