CFA Exam Preparation Courses

Hi guys,

I've been in Geneva for 2 years but only recently I signed up for glocals, this is my 1st post in the forum. I hope some of you can share your thoughts!

I'm interested in doing the CFA exam (level I) next June 2011, heard there are basically 2 methods / study guides to choose from: Stalla and Schweser. Do you have impressions about any of them?

I'm working full time so I'm thinking of doing a preparation course. I think a fixed schedule would "oblige" me to duly start preparing in advance and discipline my study. I've heard of 2 places, each one applying 1 of the above methods:

1) Geneva Business School: classes on evenings and weekends (aprox 200 lessons) http://www.finance-geneva.com/ The study material is based on Schwezer’s CFA Fundamentals and questions compiled by GBS/IFGP.

2) Swiss CFA society + Top Finance Stalla: classes on evenings (66 hours) OR weekends (56 hours) http://www.scfas.org/Pages/cfaprep.aspx The study material is based on Stalla. On the "+" side there's also the makeup classes or see it on video (in case you miss it).

So I was thinking... has anyone done one of the courses? If you could give me your impressions it would be great, I'm trying to decide which one to take but I don't have any references, any oppinion about any of the courses / methods will be more than welcome! Thanks for the help.

Take care,
Diana

I've done Schweser, but in the States and was quite impressed with it. I wasn't a big fan of Stella and didn't like thier study material. This was also about four years ago so things may have changed.

Good luck!

Hello Diana,

Which option did you end up choosing ? I am considering taking Level 1 in June 2012 and facing the same dilemma. Would appreciate any input on whether you took any of the above courses and how did it go for you? Thank you!

Anastasia

Hi Anastasia, in the end I didn't sign up.

I still think of doing the CFA one day, just not now - realized that would take all my free time for the next 3 years so not being a priority I've postponed this project for the time being.

Sorry for not being able to help! My neighbour prepared with Schwezer and she passed last June. I can put you in contact if you wish to discuss it with someone.

Wish you a lot of courage to face the hard study & good luck for the exam!

Hi Diana,

Unfortunatly Stalla was sold to Kaplan and this year, they are not doing any notes.

I'm CFA charterholder and I found these courses very expensive.

I'm doing some tutoring for CFA candidates, if you are interested don't hesitate to contact me [email protected]

Or you can go to CFA tutoring

I may be breaking some of the Standards by saying this but you can easily find free notes from Schweser via torrents.
