Canadian Passport Photos
Hello again

I'm trying to find an photo studio that can take passport photos for Canadian passports.

I found some that are authorised to do US passport photos but I know all too well the Canadian passport office can be ridiculously anal about this.

In the Geneva/Vaud area or neighbouring towns in France would be great.

Thanks!

Hi Cig bar

There is a photo studio at Place Cornavain. Its opposite the Notre Dame Basilica (Church).

Next to the indian restaurant SHAHI. I guess its on the first floor.

Phone 022 345 36 17

or call up the Permanent Mission of Canada, Geneva, for a list.

Best, :)

Hi Cigbar,

It would be a good idea to download the instructions. Link is here. Make sure you do not smile.:D

http://www.ppt.gc.ca/form/pdfs/pptc040.pdf

Photos instructions are on page four. Be sure that the lighting is good enough and that there are no shadows. You can see this as soon as they take the photo (or at least when they print them). If the photo is too dark, shadows etc. Have them redo the photo right away rather than having the application rejected.

They need to put their stamp on the back of the photo as well.

Hope that this helps.

Wonderful. Thank you for the information!

Oh I know Verbier, they are so so picky. The last time I had my photos done Passport Canada rejected them because there was a bit of a glare on my forehead and chin. Hmm, better bring my compact this time!

Just an added question:

Once you get your photos done, what would be the next step?

Hi mispolly,

Here is the link for the form. Print it out and fill it in. You need someone (guarantor) to sign the back of the photos and the form. Check the requirements for this.

http://www.ppt.gc.ca/form/pdfs/pptc040.pdf

Here is the link to the embassy in Bern with instructions on where to send it. Registered mail of course:)

http://geo.international.gc.ca/canada-europa/switzerland/embassy/embassy3-en.asp

They will send you an invoice (BVD) to pay. From memory you then send them back a copy of the receipt and they will send you the new passport.

Turn around is quite quick.

hi cig,

i just renewed my passport....scouted different photo studios for pictures...you do not need, unlike in canada, a professional photo studio to take your picture.

I went to the studio across cornavin...he was around chf60 and you had to wait 1 day to pick up..and can only do so after 4 pm if not it would be more expensive.

in cornavin station there is a mr minit that takes pictures....you have the option of getting 4 pictures for 30chf or 2 big ones.....aim for the 2 big ones..and you will be within the size limit of the application....bring the application with you so the person  can measure the size of your head in the picture....im not kidding but the canadian authorities are anal about that...and dont smile...even your application says so...the photographer needs to put his name and address on the back of the pictures...it doesnt need to be a stamp..as the digital print leeks ink....i had him write on the back of the pics as per the form..and it was accepted...

you can also take the pictures on confederation street at that photo shop next to swiss com and place longemalle....(corner)

fill out your application and make sure your signature does not pass the boundaries of the box....the office will have you resign it :-)

the canadian office took about 7 working days for all it..they were very quick...and nice ...naturally....

good luck :-)

Just to let you know how it turned out:

I went to a photographer's shop located in the Hyper-Champion mall in Ferney. He said he could do Canadian passport photos. Another Canadian who just happened to be in the shop suggested I go elsewhere. The photographer, insulted, insisted he could do it. I gave him the exact specifications as written in the passport application.

As soon as I saw the photos he had done I knew they would be rejected: Head wasn't perfectly in line and there were shadows on the side of the face and under the chin.

So instead of letting him redo them I immediately went to Photo Luserna in Geneva. The photos turned out fine and the price was better than in Ferney.

With no guarantor in France, I had to go to either the Canadian consulate in Lyon or the Canadian Embassy in Paris. It seemed strange to me, but the Canadian consulate in Geneva would not do it because I live in France.

I decided to make a vacation out of it and chose to go to Paris. The waiting area at the embassy was packed! But luckily they separate queues for people applying for visas and people who need passport services so I only had to wait a short time--10 minutes or so.

I explained there was an urgent need to get the passport processed as quickly as possible. She said it usually it takes three weeks but they would do their best. To my delight the passport arrived at my door just 10 days later!

I was wondering where the Canadian Consulat is in Geneva? I can't seem to find it. I know there is an embassy in Berne tho...  do you have the contact details for the consulate in Geneva?
