Cash or cashless in Geneva?

Hello all,

I will soon be coming to Geneva (for a short term stay) for the first time since before the pandemic. I would like to know if cash is still widely accepted around Geneva, or if the city is mostly cashless now?

If it is cashless, are there any pre-paid cards you can buy in Geneva and load with money which are NOT linked to a bank account? Online research suggests that they only come with a bank account.

Any information would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Hi Isabelle,

Cash is widely accepted in Geneva at restaurants, shops, supermarkets etc.
You can even pay cash for a bus ticket at most bus station ticket machines.

Alot of places also accept Apple Pay or Google Pay.

The closest think I know to a rechargebale credit card is Revolut

Good luck and enjoy Geneva.

Thank you!

I've since found the Cornercard prepaid card. Do you know anything about that?

Wise (formerly transferwise) debit card is also widely used here and in neighboring France.
