Cat looking for a new home

Hello,

Hope this is the right forum to post this on - we have a lovely 3 year old cat who is looking for a new home. We've recently, finally, confirmed that my husband is allergic to cats. We've tried everything to try and keep her, but the allergy is quite bad and its making life at home very unpleasant for him, so unfortunately I now have to find her a new home with a loving family. If you are interested/know anyone who might be interested then please send me a message and I'll get back to you with more information.

Cheers,

S.

That is interesting.  In Canada, it's a perfectly acceptable practice but you would not do it for a cat that goes outside.  Many cat lovers such as myself have declawed cats (or partially declawed - front only) and it's not something that is frowned upon (at least not by the majority of people).  Thanks for sharing the info!

As anti-allergy cat I'd recommend the wonderful Sacred Birman.

Lisa,

I know what I am talking about. My children and I are (unfortunately) very allergic to standard european cats, what we call in French "chat de gouttière". However, we are not at all allergic to Sacred Birmans and Siamese cats. Whatsmore, several people who are allergic to cats have come at our place without showing any symptoms of allergy.

It may not work for everybody, but it does work for us, and apparently for some other people too. And Sacred Birmans are wonderful cats too.

Not just "frowned upon", but illegal (as Reka pointed out) because it's cruel and unnecessary, along with cat bathing and shaving, all of which seem to be commonplace in North America.

Sorry to hijack your discussion Sseifeln, but I feel strongly about this and I don't want anyone left with the impression that this is just a slight difference of opinion.  De-clawing a cat and keeping it indoors is like capturing an Olympic athlete, pulling all of their fingernails out and putting them in prison.

Declawing, (from what I understand), involves amputating the first joint of the cat's toes, not just the claw. This can cause a lot of problem for the cat, aside from the obvious discomfort. Imagine trying to walk after having all of your toes amputated from the last knuckle.

Just because a practice is considered acceptable, it doesn't make it right.

The OP had a clear question, why are you steering the discussion in the direction of pros/cons of whatever? If you want to debate that do start a different thread out of respect for the person who posted the original request and may not care about your banter.

Catalin,

My post hardly constitutes banter, it simply highlights and hopefully clarifies the debate on an animal welfare issue. My contribution was prompted by questions from others within this forum, and will hopefully lead the pro-declawing glocals members to question their position.

I write this with all due respect to the original poster, and wish her every success in rehoming her pet.

And, with all due respect to you, Catalin - I find your objection to my post quite strange. From what I have observed, your main contribution to glocals forums is typically to steer off topic with your attempts to highlight your own attractiveness and to attract women. This, FYI, can be described as banter ;-)

I was not replying to anyone in particular. I do believe I reply on topic most of the time and that I've helped hundreds of people in my 6 years of gol/glocals and when I don't, at least I don't try to convince people that they are wrong and uninformed if they don't agree with my views. Other than my attractiveness. Which even my enemies can't deny.
