Certificate of good health?

Hi all,

I will be moving to Geneva next week to start a short-term contract with the UN, and I've just been informed today that I must provide a "certificate of good health" from a doctor before my first day of work (February 8).

I'm in Buenos Aires, Argentina right now, and no one here seems to have a clue of how to get one of these. Since I fly out on Tuesday, I don't have much time left to do it here anyway.

Anyone know if I could get one at a hospital or doctor's office in Geneva, and if so how expensive it might be?

Many thanks for your help!

Wendy

I know only two situations where I was requested to provide a "certificat de bonne santé" here: a dog and my son ;-))))

I was requested to provide one of these for my 18 months old son when he joined the crèche. It is basically a certificate saying that you do not have any disease which would request that you do not join.

Since my son is going to the same pediatrician since his birth, she did not charge anything for the certificate and did not even request to see him. I have no idea what kind of exams they would need to perform on you before delivering the paper...

For the dog, it was requested before it entered the swiss territory.

It is a certificate/letter signed by a doctor saying just that: that you are in good health.  If you can't get a doctor in Buenos Aires to do one before you leave, you could go to a "permanence medicale" in Geneva to get one.  This visit will probably cost you around CHF 100.

Hi Wendy !

This is just an administrative formality,  not unsual here...it is so to speak a safeguard for your employer in case something happens to you while you work : nothing prevents you from doing the work you were hired for...(healthywise)

Mots doctors will just ask you a few questions and examine you briefly, it wont take long. I cant recommend any doctor in GVA unfortunately but try to see if you cant do that certificate once you are at UN. There is  a medical service for UN employees at PALAIS DES NATIONS as well as at WHO and probaly in other UN agencies. I dont know though if they do such certificates...

Good luck and welcome to GVA :=)
