btw, just checking, as this kind of service is very common in italy/spain/france... couple of km from the airport you can park at very good rates. apparently in geneva is not the case!

From what I remember, the municipal police tend to drive by and check these,   on a regular basis -  due to people using them in the past to store vehicles - and you may get ticketed

If you work near the airport you might also be able to get a P+R parking pass for one of the parking garages along the public transport routes.  P47 or Pre-Bois.

For the P+R you usually need an attestation from your employer.

Agnese, you'd better get used to the situation, because it won't become any easier.

The traffic at GVA airport is constanly increasing, but the number of parking spaces is going down, not up, for several reasons, all linked to the proximity of the airport to the city:

- There is simply not room to build any parkings, and the current expansion of the airport is in fact eating up parking space.

- The increased air traffic has already brought pollution to almost unacceptable levels, so you don't want to add extra car pollution in addition.

- The Swiss authorities want to move tarffic away from car and to public transport, and the authorities have ordered the airport to encourage people to use public transport to get to the airport.

So I reccomend getting used to driving to your closest P+R, in order to fly away.

what about finding somewhere near train station in geneva and then hop on train to airport. train station in center to aiport takes less than 10 minutes

I only park at GVA car park if I am travelling for less than 3 days, otherwise its the same as getting a cab. I also now always time my flights when at all possible against public transport. I also travel a lot and have been doing this for the last year, in GVA there is no cheap parking.

Further I find P51 a hell of a treck when I'm running for my flight, and can be hell also to find a spot at the weekend, until I found the French Secteur. P20 is over there and a shorter walk, its approx the same price as P51 though, and you will have to walk through 2 sets of customs in the airport, but its an easier alternative.

But as everyone already said, the only cheap solution is public transport, the Airport does have good connections with Bus and Train, so all i can really recommend is take the entire picture into consideration for your trips, that or slip in the occasional taxi receipt into expenses as I do.... so far so good

Maybe an airport Carpool service is knocking on the door....
