Child going to Ecolint (Pregny), what do you think of living in Plainpalais?

We're looking for flats right now and seriously considering one in Plainpalais.  My son is 5 years old so I don't want him on the bus for very long.  The school says maybe about 25-30 minutes, but its pretty offhand.  Anyone have any suggestions or opinions?  How is that area for families?  Nearby parks, etc?  We would like a more central location having been in central London the last 3 years.  Thanks!

Hi Linda,

We live now in Plainpalais and although my son is 16, we have friends with 4-years old daughter and they choosed to live exactly in Plainpalais because there are parcs around, a lot of shops, market and it is very convenient with public transportation. Just try to find smth not too close to the market/Plainpalais ring itself.

My son goes to Ecolint in Grand Saconnex and in the morning he takes school bus and it takes around 20-30 min to go to school.

We like it here, everything is so close. 10 min walking to the downtown, to Rive, Euax-Vives etc. But from other side if you needs calm and silent life it is defininetly not here:)

Thanks so much Bridget for your reply!  We're still waiting to hear about this flat (its been almost 2 weeks..does it always take this long?)  Its good to hear that the bus doesn't take too long from this location, the area sounds great!

You are very welcome.

The question about the apartment...Well, I guess you have already read here all the scary stories about looking and missing and looking again and missing again. That's a question of luck, I think...But may be you can check the progress with your case, just to be sure that regie remembers about your file:(

Hi Linda, I found this old post from 2010 about living in Plainpalais and having a child at Ecolint Pregny. Did this work well for you and for family? We are thinking about possibily doing the same!

Thanks

Carol

Hi Linda and Carol,

it all depends on where in Plainpalais will you live.

The fastest way to Ecolint Pregny by bus from Plainpalais is this:

Tram 15 (several stops from Plainpalais) then get off at Nations or Gare Cornavin and take Bus V (stop: La Fenêtre). If the weather is nice you can take Bus 8 or F and get off at Appia and walk all the way up Ecolint for about 5 to 10 min.
