Children's Schooling - College de Leman
Hello to everyone. I am new here and would like to seek some advices on children's schooling.

We are moving to Geneva this summer with two kids, aged 11 and 9, both with fluent English and French. Still have no idea where we will be staying. I have contacted three schools in Geneva - International School Geneva (no vacancies for year 8), Institue International de Lancy (no vacancies for year 5), and College de Leman (with vacancies).

I am wondering if there are any moms/dads here on this forum who know the College de Leman and can give me some comments regarding the school. I desperately need some quick advice before I make a decision.

Thank you in advance.

Actually even if you have been told of no vacancies at the schools keep your name in the waiting list. We arrived 7 years ago with exactly the same issue.. no space at ISG , but places at CDL .. we then had to look at places near the school.. But as we were looking a place came up at LGB (one of the ISG campuses) , and we cancelled the CDL place. Although at this time of year the forms for the following year have been completed and fees paid, the companies still will move staff and thus free places. I don't know anyone with kids at CDL , but we've been pleased with our kids at the Internation School of Geneva (LGB Campus)..

Thank you so much for your reply. By only checking the websites of different schools, I felt the LGB is my preferred school (campus). Yet, I have been advised that we had very little chance to get a place at year 8 (thousands on the waitlist). Logistically it is hard to have two kids in two different schools. Do you think I should just wait a bit longer? Thanks a lot.

My sister and I are graduates of CDL and found it to be more international than Ecolint (International School of Geneva).  The anglo-american section had some good to great teachers and the majority of the students ended up at good universities.  Good luck with the search.

I have two children who have attended CDL for two years now. They had acceptances from the same schools you mention but we chose CDL over the others.

All three schools have top credentials but we chose CDL mainly because, after visiting all the schools, the other two just felt too large and far too impersonal.

Parking at CDL is terrible but everything else has been really wonderful. I hope you don't feel like you're just taking what's available, because it really is a fine school. :)

Thanks a lot, Cigbar. Sorry I did not see your post earlier. I am waiting for CDL to give me final confirmation, while I already got both places from IIL (Lancy) for my kids. Hard decision - CDL or IIL. Any suggestions about IIL? Many thanks.

I can only comment on our experience of IIL. Our son (age 7) is approaching the end of his 3rd year in the French section. He is a very happy & outgoing boy, and is now bilingual (unlike his parents!). We have been very impressed with the diligence of all his teachers.

I hear leman is good and all our neighbours with kids there are happy with the standard so far.

I did hear the Int School at Founex has a high turnover of kids, so both the kids friends and studies suffer even if you get places its hard on them, but that may be hearsay...but maybe try the FRENCH stream at the Int school< i heard that is not bad and more stable?

Be careful of drugs at the Int school..I have heard of a few problems there recently.

Leman also has a great bus service for the kids so you can worry less as to where you will live in relation to the school.

Hello, I've heard from various sources that IIL is the most academic school in Geneva with a greater focus on decent behaviour. I also know two very experienced teachers who visited all the schools looking for places for their own children and chose IIL, describing it as 'no contest'. Interestingly, the others in their tour-group (the 'non-teachers') chose the other schools. I suggest you look beyond marketing and presentation and look at the core values. Hang around outside the school, look how the children interact with each other, ask to visit lessons, etc....

Hope this helps.
