Chimney Sweep Coming

Had a little note in our mailbox saying that the sweep is coming Friday for his mandatory inspection/clean of our chimney ..

I assume we don't need to do anything? other than not have the fire on at the time?

And pay of course, whenever the bill arrives.

Humm....we are required to do this every two years and unfortunately we have to pay for it. As Jeffery says, it's around 145chf.

Oddly though, he's only looked at our chimney once (probably because we don't use it). Instead le ramoneur measures the CO2 levels from our water heater in the kitchen. It takes 10 mins.

I'll go out on a limb and say she saw the word 'coming' and immediately had a mental image of him ejaculating wildly all over a fireplace. How's that Phoebe? Am I in the ballpark?

Btw, the cost of getting out chimney cleaned was SFr 81.00. I guess it's cheaper out in the sticks.

John:

Only dry wooden logs, please.

Do not throw your whiskey as a fire starter so you 'll get house in flames. No old barrels or tyres so the firemen would come visit you, before the Gendarmerie for illegal communication with smoke signals and/or fumigating your neighbours.

More serious thought now,  KEEP your receipt of Chimney sweeper in a safe place as it proves sweep was done and this is your only chance to obtain high refund on your belongings from your insurance should the fire destroys entirely your place.

Happy house warming now that the duct is freshly clean ;-)

Damn i was planning to never buy those white and green TAX bags again for the garbage :)

I already have a stack of logs ready for when the temperature gets below zero, indoors.  Right now we still have the heating off and windows open being warm scottish types!

We have had two yellow notices in the last week , telling us they will be coming around between 0900 and 1200 on such and such a day, even though they know we dont have a fire place

If they think I am taking vacation for this pointless exercise, they are very much mistaken.

I will get it done just before I move out
